Nice lists!

I agree with RobD, freeware should be on a separate list. Jessica Plunkett wins that easily.

Don't know about that Goat in the Grey Fedora was very good.

@AdventureManiac
You should probably decide if you want to includ freeware or perhaps break it out in a separate thread.
But that's your decision.

And she still missed both the DS games.  :

P.S Moment of Silence was a 2004 game

MoS was released in EU 2004, in US 2005. Doesn't matter anyways, it's the best game in ages!

I'm afraid that, due to having no time and even less money, I've only been able to play one game this year. That was Fahrenheit, and it would get my top vote

Well, unfortunately, the only people who should be voting are those that played them all.  How else can you put one above the others?  ATTWN is a very new game and consequently not many have had a chance to play it yet which explains the apparent low number.  I can't see the results yet because I haven't voted.  MOS seems to have a strong following and I want to check it out before I vote.  Right now it looks like Voyage for me.

that is a very good point, but there are some exceptions... for example, i haven't played myst 5 or rhem 2, but i know they wouldn't be my adventure game of the year... on the other hand, i haven't played bone either, which could have a chance (esp since i love the comic!)... but in general, the most valid votes are the ones from ppl who have played ALL the titles

btw, voting "best smth of the year/decade/eon/eternity" will always remind me the most inane voting i've ever seen in my life... rolling stone magazine's (i think) poll "best album of the millenium"... right after radiohead's new, mainstream album... guess what was the "best album" of the millenium... Well, technically you should remove the poll until January or February - after the year is over with and the games that came out in December will have been played by more than a handful of people.   [smiley=whistle.gif]

I'll add them and replace them with the lowest rated games of this current list what do you think?

I'm not sure, I think you should do them all at once.  Of course the poll limits may prevent you from being able to do so.  Go look at some of the polls that Cranky Hermit did. He had it down to a science. He'd do one set, then another, then take the best from both sets and combine them into another, etc.  In the end he had a pretty decent mix.  You might want to try and let people choose their best 3, this way way you'll eliminate the whole fanboy side of things.  Just my thoughts. I'm sure others have better ideas on how to do it as well.

Just looking at the list, there are really only two puzzlers: RHEM 2 and Myst 5 (interesting that they are both sequels), and they received 13 of the 57 votes so far. That's 25% of the votes going to a sub-genre that represents about 15% of the available games. I interpret this to mean that there is a bigger market for puzzle-focused adventure games than is currently being served.

That's true for the JA forums. The results at for instance Adventure Gamers are totally different. You can find virtually the same poll there... except that RHEM 2 is not even on it.

I'm suprised they don't just rename their site to "Action/Adventure Gamers"  :

Is there any way I could see the poll results without voting?

Why don't you vote?

I don't think there's anyother way for you to see the results unless you vote

I did vote (for Still Life) although I haven't played any of the games, because I wanted to see the results.

People could add an extra option to these polls: "I don't want to vote, just see the results".

I imagine there are people here who haven't played any of the games on the list, or who have played one or two, but hesistate to declare them "game of the year".

Didn't stop me, though!
