Now that is the big question! Could she possibly not have been aware of the meaning of that gesture? Even in 1968 I find it a little hard to believe. Could it have been a deliberate mocking of the whole situation? After all, she was just at the start of her career as a pop star and here she was in the middle of this cheesy children's show... :

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, wine in the other screaming, "WOO HOO what a ride!!!

What's the song about?
...not to be confused with Keira Knightley

What's the song about? She sings:
Long live the finger Man's best friend The finger should be held high Long live it

| Deleted User | In the US, when we hold up a finger to indicate the number one, we use our index finger, just as Saddam is doing here while ordering one guinness:
[img]http://home.comcast.net/~chrissherwood/onlinestorage/1GuinessPlease.JPG[/img] But in some European countries, they indicate the number one by holding up a thumb. I was like "hey, thumbs up dude, okay!!" until I figured that out.
So, you know, this could be a similar difference in cultural counting.
Eh?

There's no cultural differences here though. That finger means what it has always meant, and it's not something nice...

[smiley=rofl.gif][smiley=rofl.gif][smiley=rofl.gif] What a damn shame everyone here who doesn't speak Swedish can't get the humor of that one! Well, maybe a description would give a good idea but it couldn't possibly be as funny as the real thing...

| Deleted User | Just had a look at the videos added this week. The #1 one had me laughing to tears! Again, not nearly as funny if you can't understand Swedish though...
THIS one however can be enjoyed equally by everyone. It's the first music video made by the guy who produced Madonna's "Ray of Light" video and also made videos for Rolling Stones, Metallica, Prodigy, U2 etc. Obviously production standards have increased over time. :
