I’d love to see a computer game (or series of games) based on Stephen King’s Dark Tower series.

I can just see it . . .
Help Roland and his ka-tet follow the beam to the Dark Tower!
Avoid being eaten by the lobstrosities.
Help Jake escape the Plaster Man.
Win the battle of the riddles against Blaine (the pain) Mono.
Foil the hideous witch, Rhea of the Cöos, and capture the Wizard glass.
Defeat the Crimson King and his Wolves.

I wonder if SK would be amenable to this idea. He is, by all accounts, an extremely generous, easy going fella. Wouldn’t it be loverly? Say thankee, sai. Say thankya big-big.

Deleted UserHey Starcracker,

you're right. This could be a great adventure.

I can't remember if there is a SK book converted into an adventure other then the Dark Half.

Brings back memories.

Anybody know an other King game? No Kings Quest please.

There are books of him that would be great adventures. Same goes with a lot of other writers like Clive Barker. Undying was great, but had not a real 'Barker' sign on it. IMHO.

See ya.

(btw, why have you posted this in the HOT SPOT section. It's not much of a hot spot thread to me. Or is it because you are a hot spot youself?

Stephen King Games

Well I hesitate to mention F13 because it's a pile of rancid dog poo. It was more a collections of wallpapers and screensavers with some wack a mole mini games thrown in.

There was a Lawnmower Man game, A "The Mist" text adventure and of course "The Running Man" had a game

Dark Tower would be ok, but hard to envision a game based on it.

I've always thought that "The Stand" would make a pretty decent adventure with the surviving without power parts especially lending itself to puzzles.

I've always thought The Shawshank Redemption had the most easy-to-convert-to-puzzles situations among King's novels. Yeah, the Dark Tower would be nice but ideally I wouldn't want the series to be converted to anything.. no films, no games, nothing. Perfection should be left untouched in my opinion. Of course, a comic book has already been announced so so much for that thought.

Do you like classic adventure games? Check out Diamonds in the Rough!

Don't worry.  I got the impression that the comic isn't simply going to retread the events from the books.  For example, we'll finally get to see what happened on Gerico (can't remember how it's spelled) Hill.

This is my all-time favorite series of books.  I think it would be...interesting...to see it made into a game/game series.

On the one hand, I would love to be able to "live" some of the crucial moments in the series - on the other, I'm afraid it would keep the uninitiated from actually reading the series.

"Oh, I've already played the game(s), I don't need to actually read the books."

I think the ending would be interesting too...especially if it ended like the books.

I loved the Dark Tower ending. Sure, King acted like it was bad, but the redemption visible in the return of the horn/trumpet meant a lot. I'd imagine (because re-doing the books themselves would be kinda hard, the events take place very specific to the results of the gunslingers' skills) a game based on the Dark Tower would be that supposed last trip through his history, with all the changes made by Roland's purgatory coming to an end. What type of game do you imagine it, though? Point and click adventure? Third person shooter/adventure? Fps? *laughs* RPG? "Roland gains thirty experience points. Roland levels up! *trumpet noise*"

I would love to see some adventure games based upon the Dark Tower Series-- they are my favorite books.

Another one of his that would make a great game would be The Talisman.

Even though I am enjoying the series (Yes, I've finally got around to reading it), I really don't think it'd convert easily into a game format. Sorry, don't mean to be contentious, but while it's a nice idea I just can't see it as a workable game.

I agree that Dark Tower would make for a cool game, but Shawshank Redemption would have a much better movie-to-adventure game transition.

The Dark Tower would indeed be difficult to adapt into an adventure game due to its varied kind of storytelling, but one might be able to devise something -based- on the tale, like making an adventure game about Roland in his youth traveling with his friends at the behest of his father, etc.

While on the subject of Stephen King novels that might make good games, I can certainly see "Misery" being adaptable: it'd be like one of these "escape from the locked room" games, except it'd actually be an "escape from the crazy bitch" game.

Deleted UserHeh... I think DT could be made into an interesting game, although it would also be easy to completely mess it up, like some games have made complete goofed-up parodys of good books.
It would have to be done by a bunch of really talented devs, not some crowd-pleaser rush job.

Of course, the series I would most like to see in the shape of a game, would be Gene Wolfe's "Shadow of the Torturer" series. (The Books Of The New Sun).
