Just finished RHEM. (Exhales deeply.) Good game. A generous serving of cold, hard logic was just what the doctor ordered.

I have a question. One of the things that helped me through the game was the note in the manual that says, "every element and environment has been created with a purpose." Excellent! No red herrings. So, when I got stuck, I  would go through all the stuff that didn't appear to do anything in my mind. After sometimes hours of contemplation, I would eventually recognize a connection between two things, and rush back to the game to try it out. These are the glorious "eureka" moments that only adventure games can deliver.

Oh yeah, my question. There was one thing that did not seem to have a purpose to me. It was a control box with two buttons and circular monitor that enables you to rotate the train tracks in the terminal where you start the game. I don't think I had to use that at all to finish the game. It could have been taken out with no effect on the actual game, right?

Hmmm.  If I'm thinking of the same place, I think you were rotating a bridge to get to another area.  Were you in a small room with a map behind the door?

BTW, I agree with you that Rhem is a challenging but fair game.  I enjoyed it tremendously.  The only thing I wish I could have done was repair the bridge that led to the last piece of the radio antenna.  It was a long walk around.

Yeah, but there was more than one room with a map behind the door. This room was just off the big tower with the rotating wooden corridor. It also contained a controller for the wooden corridor and the grey 7-button box. You encounter this spot really early in the game.

I vaguely remember the thing you are talking about and I think you are right. It didn't serve any particular purpose in the game.

Still, what a game! I'm in the middle of RHEM2 at the moment. Brain strain!

I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by.

I can't remember this. But I think there were some areas that just gave you access to something that gave you a hint for a different puzzle, or a map, but weren't really necessary to solve the game.
