In real life this would never happen to me

Well, you didn't say anything about damaging the door

I'd use my imagination and give the jar a name. I'd call it Door ! Now all I would need to do is walk out of the room. How ? Because, in the room, I now have a door that is ajar (a jar) !
Simple !

So where is the key then?

Is there a keylock on the door?

Belinda: Is the door made of glass? Is there a hole in it? How else can you know where the key is if there's no one around?

I think Belinda wants us to "take for granted" the situation, that is, "it is the way it is - solve the problem" but more information is needed to do it (at least I think so).

Status : Offline | You're stuck in a windowless locked room, with nobody around and the key is on the other side of the door. The room is practically empty, with a hairpin, an empty glass jar, and a newspaper in the corner. How do you get out without damaging the room? The word key has several meanings - in this case it could be taken as: A means of escape - such as another person on the other side...
I'd ask the person on the other side to open the door.
Except for that nobody around part - I think I'm on to something.

Since I'm not locked in that room, I don't know what it looks like and I have to ask extra questions.
Hey, for all I know, there's an article on getting out of a locked room using only a glass jar and a hairpin in that newspaper
