Status : Offline | well, this is it! the halloween tourney is over, and the winner is, not surprisingly at all, Bastich, and this makes it two in a row! this was not just a win though, since bastich broke the pts record (which he held) and the 100 pts barrier!
see how this tourney played, week by week:
Week 1 Week 2 Week 3 Week 4 Week 5 Week 6 Week 7 Week 8 Week 9
and also all the rankings fluctuations
so, after 5 major tourneys, i guess we reached the end of the line! with only 15 ppl participating (even the first tourney, which featured public posting, had more participants!) and with me getting kinda tired (it is a lot of work!) i think it’s best to end the big tourneys here, rather than ending up trying to find ppl to fill up a top 5 and me posting a couple of pics i got from mobygames!
and since this is the last of the big tourneys, and since i like stats and all that stuff, let’s take a stroll down memory lane and see what has happened from september 2003 to halloween 2005!
there have been 5 big tourneys:
Autumn Tourney 2003 (sep-nov 2003 - winner: qrious) Spring Tourney 2004 (mar-may 2004 - winner: qrious) Black Mask (sep-nov 2004 - winner: agustin) Trinity (mar-may 2005 - winner: bastich) Halloween (sep-oct 2005 - winner: bastich)
andromus, elfstone, eva, jerry and shany have played in all 5 of them!
elfstone and jerry have always finished hand in hand in all tourneys (jerry-elfstone once, and elfstone-jerry 4 times)!!!
bastich holds the pts record with 108.5 pts in halloween!
bastich holds the best “climbing” pts record: from 4 pts in spring tourney 2004 to 108.5 in halloween (104.5 pts better!!! )
spring tourney 2004 holds the participants record with 29 players! (double the number of halloween!)
wimli now has exactly 100 pts total from all the tourneys!
elfstone is the most consistent with 56, 54, 57.5 and 57 pts in the last 4 tourneys!
some top 5’s follow in the next post… there are some very interesting stats there!

(note here, that if lady kestrel didn’t have that 1 pt in black mask she would have a 58 pts p.t. in 2 tourneys! that pt though drops her avg to 39 pts p.t. in 3 tourneys!)
top 5 of average pts per tourney, in all tourneys
1. Elfstone 47.6 pts avg 2. Bastich 46.8 pts avg 3. Jerry 42.7 pts avg 4. GarageGothic 26.9 pts avg 5. Agustin 26.4 pts avg
hope you found all that interesting! thanx everyone who played and made this fun for the past 2 years!!!

Just tell me...is it you, qrious??
A big, [size=24]BIG "THANK YOU!" to you, Aya!!! You are right...I can imagine that you are exhausted and I believe it's a good time to stop this. I had a lot of fun - as you can see from my consistency stats :. A job well done! [smiley=bowdown.gif]

I'll miss them, but I understand why you're stopping, seeing the incredible amount of time and work you've put into these -- I've really appreciated it! [smiley=clap.gif]

Status : Offline | I had a wonderful time with the three tournaments I played, Aya, and obviously learned something between my first and this one. I will be sorry to see them end, but I do understand how much work goes into doing them. Thank you so much for all your time and effort in keeping us entertained and on our toes!
Congratulations to our Big Bad Bastich for such an excellent win, and to Bagman Brody (aka Pizzaman) for scooping up second place!

| Deleted User | Let me add my thanks for this wonderful tournament, Mr. Aya. It has kept my mind exercized in a most entertaining way, and, although I didn't discover any further clues here in my search for the Agon, I am now relaxed and ready to continue my seach. Smythe tells me that I may be journeying to Toledo, Spain in the very near future to do just that, and he mentioned something about a sword.
Tomorrow I will be returning to London to spend time with my beloved wife, Dorothy, but I wish you and the game players here at Just Adventure all my best always. If you're ever interested in pursuing my mystery, be sure to look me up at the British Museum. If I'm not there, Smythe can tell you where I can be found.
Farewell and happy puzzling always to you all, Professor Samuel Hunt

Bastich: I am very impressed with your win. I would love to challenge you again in the future.
But I will take my second-place medal and wear it proudly.
Thanks again!

In terms of my score. Unless you include the fact that I didn't even participate in the first one and would have a score of 0. : But I did manage to stay #10 for a few weeks in a row, which isn't bad.
[smiley=clap.gif] to Aya for all his hard work.
[smiley=clap.gif] to Bastich and all of our top winners.
[smiley=clap.gif] to everyone else, because they deserve something, too.
[smiley=clap.gif] to me for being so considerate of others.
EDIT: Technically, I did worse in the Black Mask tourney, but this was a combo tourney w/ a different scoring system and I know for sure I didn't do as much guessing, so that's why it "worse" for me in terms of how I played.

I was just starting to hit my stride...
Anyway, thanks for all the hard work you put into them. I had a lot of fun.
I do hope the trivia forum will still remain active though. I need my fix...

I'm quite surprised you didn't guess who I was, since we always finish hand in hand together (and most of the time I'm just below you). At the end of the tournament I was almost certain who you were, but unfortunately, I forgot about the "behind the masks" until it was just too late...
And of course, thank you Aya, for all these wonderful tournaments. I sure am going to miss them...

Status : Offline | here's what has happened... in the beginning, and for the first 3 tourneys, i was really into getting the sshots myself, and it was pure fun for me... i would take hours installing and loading old games, walking around, solving some puzzles too or loading from old saves etc (and the nostalgia feeling was great too! )... i would boot from 98, or dos, and try all kinds of sshot grabbing progs for the hard ones (progs like vthief, which i found out about from michal)... i even used a digital camera once for a game that i couldn't grab a sshot no matter what! (sign of the sun)... but as of trinity i started getting tired of doing all this... on several weeks i would go back to leftover sshots from previous tourneys and use those instead... and this time, i barely took 1 or 2 sshots myself each week (mainly pic0)... the rest came either from old leftovers or the inet (first time i did that)... although it is still fun to read guesses and put rankings together etc, the rest became a smth like a chore, and that is why (along with the very low participation) i feel the tourneys reached the end of their journey! (:'()

Well, you know I did that on purpose, right? Otherwise, of course, I would have easily beaten Bastich this tournament, piece of cake.
Anyway, Bastich, congratulations with another astounding victory! That is some top score.

Anyway, since a big tourney doesn't appeal to you anymore, I would think doing a small one from time to time would be more fun for you and us, since it won't require so much work over a long period of time.

BTW, are you liking The Space Bar? It's a tough one, but I had a great time with it. i like it a lot, despite some major nuisances it has... the whole concept, and the aliens and flashbacks are extremely clever! i am very annoyed by the fact that the whole thing in the bar is timed though, and you can't even examine everything and try everything without having to restore in order to save time... dead ends are annoying too... unfort, certain circumstances have prevented me from fully enjoying the game, since i've been playing it for almost 3 months now, and constantly have to stop for days... have you finished it btw? i think i am very close to finishing it (done with all the flashbacks and now trying to find and arrest the bad guy!)

Unfortunately, I had overwritten the crucial saves and couldn't go back to make up for lost time, so I never got the bad guy. I will replay it, however, now that I know what I need to do.
I did find hanging about a bit tedious, such as Thud & Fleebix in the box, but when I learned to advance the time, that was no problem either. The variety of aliens and their worlds are very creative and funny, and some of the puzzles are real mind benders, but I don't remember any of them being unfair.
