I also remember listening to the Monkey Island and Warcraft 2 CD's.
Yeah, I love game soundtracks

You have gotten the attention of the mysterious lady. She turns to face you. Her face is devoid of any flesh. You are frozen with horror as she begins ripping your body into a bloody mess.

| Deleted User | I haven't bought any game soundtracks yet but many games have their music in .wav, .mid or .mp3 formats, which I listen to seperately. One musical composition that I really love, and is brilliantly done, is the main theme from the "Morrowind" (yes, I know it's an RPG but it has a lot of adventure in it). The piece is simply amazing, and reminds me of "The Lord of the Rings" universe. The only downside is it's too short. The composer is Jeremy Soule, who wrote music for many games, including (but not limited to) Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, and many others. He's been compared to Hans Zimmer, who wrote music for Gladiator, and other movies.
GAP is, indeed, quite useful. I remember using it to extract music and sounds (for personal listening) from "Quest for Glory 4: Shadows of Darkness" (a great game, btw, minus bugs). Unfortunately, I can't remember the link I downloaded it from. But www.google.com search should come up with something, I'm sure.

Status : Offline | I haven't specifically purchased game music by itself - but I have made purchases with the intent that I was aiming for the bonus music when making the purchase. I purchased the GK Limited Edition because I mostly wanted the GK2 soundtrack. The QFGV soundtrack was an added bonus when I purchased the QFG Collection. And I found a used KQ6 CD and bought it so I could hear "Girl in the Tower" song in addition to the voices - I only had the floppy version of the game prior to that. I also downloaded the complete MIDI soundtrack to Laura Bow: Dagger of Amon Ra.
But have I ever gone out and purchased game music? Nope, never.

Status : Offline | Susan did you actually enjoy the GK2 soundtrack? I also have the Collectors Edition with it, but have only actually played the soundtrack once. Somehow it didn't seem as good as it did in the actual game and I found that rather disappointing as I have always loved opera. I don't know, I just don't think most game soundtracks really stand up on their own and I really feel a bit the same with film soundtracks. Always feel like taking half the tracks out or burning a new disk with just the tracks I like on it.

survival horror? it`s certainly not. it`s an RPG. the battle system is very much like final fantasy with the exception that you can move around. the game isn`t that bad, but very short..
and yes I buy and listen to game music

I did, which is also due to the fact that the music from GK1 and the GK3 trailer is also on there, because I like those tunes very much. But I have to be in a certain mood to listen to it. I'm not just going to pop it in anytime. Although I'm like that with most instrumental CDs I own - I just like to sit back and listen to them; chill out for awhile.
However, it does feel weird just listening to the music, without being able to watch the visuals on my screen, so that's why I can't just play it whenever I feel like. It's one thing to listen to the GK2 intro movie on the soundtrack, it's another to pop in the game and watch all the action that backs up that wonderful song.

Yeah gap is pretty cool. Just got some songs from sanitarium but how did you get the gk3 music. Also if anyone knows how to use this program and extrated music files from Gilbert goodmate, can you tell me how.

| Deleted User | You have to drag the game's compressed data files into the window for GAP and it'll uncompress them for you - although it takes a while. There's around 4000 tracks on the GK3 CD.

So I think I only have the Gabriel Knight- , Outcast- , Ring- , and Red Alert soundtrack.
I did discover this great site for ALL Sierra soundtracks in good quality.

Soundtracks is a good way to (in a nostaligic way) reexperience the feelings you had playing the game. I began listening to jazz after playing Grim Fandango, before playing I didn't like jazz a bit.
