Status : Online | Only played the demo but I thought was pretty damn good for that type of game. I would have bought it had I not been busy doing other things. Maybe I'll pick up the 'Black Edition' one day!
Plot, I would call it super thin as ... non existant Well I suppose there's some but I wouldn't have even bothered!

Status : Online | I just got the Black Edition myself. I didn't really have a strong desire to get the expansion pack but that's really the only way you can get the game these days. There's also some "making of" type stuff on the DVD which I've yet to watch.

| Deleted User | Humm, maybe I should get this one. I finished (re-re-)playing Half Life 2 last night, thinking "this game would be perfect fun if it wasn't of the ridiculous loading and stuttering"... I think I'm definitely in the mood for some non-stop horror action.
I guess you picked this game as a showcase of your new powerhouse comp?

Soon to come will be Doom 3, Half-Life 2, and maybe Myst 4 depending on how adventure-starved I am at that point.

Status : Online | I have it. It's kind of fun, but it's no Serious Sam (I mean FE and SE; the recent Serious Sam 2 is kind of weak). My main gripe with Painkiller is that the fights have almost no variation; almost all of them involve entering a large room, hearing the doors slam shut, and circle-strafing while slow-moving enemies with bad aim spawn into the room. Even though the look and feel of the levels and enemies vary a lot, the DESIGN of them is pretty much the same level to level.
Other gripes I have include the lengthy, drawn-out cut-scenes, which have no place in a game where the plot is almost non-existent, nor is it necessary. The long loading times are bad enough on their own, but what's even worse, is the game's various Jumping Puzzles From Hell, the worst of which require long sequences of precise bunny-hopping, and could easily take you dozens of long-ass "quickloads." Just try getting the sixth secret on City of Water (necessary for getting the best ending), and you'll see what I mean.

The military base, opera house and asylum were especially nutty to me. I like to play it at night, when everyone is in bed, all the lights out.
The sound adds a lot as well to the atmosphere. That German-sounding dude yelling all that shpit in the military base level was outstanding.

Status : Online | OMG...I LOVE this game...LOL! This is what my partner and I play when we are just in the mood for some mindless killing sprees...hehe! It's just really pretty pure FPS fun. The weapons are pretty original, the grapics when cranked up full are nice, the scenarios are unique and quite creepy, it's just awesomely weird...I REALLY like it! It will be my Halloween game of choice, along with some fun adventure game, I'm sure.

Status : Online | Well this sucks. After beating the 4th chapter the game went berzerk on me and I've come across a lot of buggy behavior that has prevented me from finishing the game. Very dissapointing because I heard the final chapter was awesome. I've tried reinstalling and somehow it just made things worse, the game won't even start now. There's either some corruption somewhere in the installation or the DVD is bad. Oh well, I guess it's time to move onto Doom 3.

Status : Online | I also had some problems, which were solved by updating the game. I don't know which version is the US edition, but the European Black Edition I bought was 3 patches behind (I had to download 450 MB of patches!!!)
And by the way, a small tip: you can play the game without the dvd inserted. When you start the game and it asks you to insert the disc do not close that message, hold down CTRL + ALT + Left Shift + Z, and then hit enter or click on the "Retry" option (with those keys still pressed). Pretty useful for when you want to play online and don't want to search for the disc.

It's worth it to fix the problem. I just finished Painkiller and, as you've heard, the final level is out of control cool. One of the coolest level designs I've seen in an FPS.

Status : Online | I've really tried, reinstalled multiple times, but the game just refuses to run. The DreamCatcher forums have proven fruitless, as I followed all the advice I got there and it did absolutely nothing. I can't tell if it's a problem with the disc or a problem with stuff sitting around on my HD from a bad uninstall.
You may as well just describe the last level for me. I'll live vicariously through you.

Status : Online | Ok, as it turns out, this was all the fault of a flakey DVD drive. I scavenged the DVD drive from my old PC and now it plays fine.
Can someone tell me what happened in the 4th cutscene? I'm sure it was something along the lines of "dude thinks he's done because he killed all 4 generals, white haired guy says nope, you have to go into hell and kill Lucifer" or something like that, but I'm still curious.  o they ever mention what he did to make him deserve purgatory?

There's an option to replay the movies somewhere in the menu...
Check it out again, cause I can't remember off hand what went on...
