Am I the only one here playing [glb]Everquest 2[/glb] and [glb]World of Warcraft[/glb]?  Just curious...well, and hoping to meet up ingame too.

In EQ2, I am on the Everfrost server.  My name is Madiera, level 36 wizard.  I also have a level 20 Fury, Twuzziel, a level 9 fighter Happynhopful, and a level 9 scout Seroquel.

On World of Warcraft I am Madylon, level 60 frost/arcane mage (33/1
, with all plus damage gear.  Madylon kicks some BOOTAY!
I am on the Lothar server in WoW.

Just wondering if any other MMORPG junkies were even out there in adventure land here!  lol

Wow...I guess the answer to the question is:

Yes, you're the only one playing those games and No...there are no other MMORPG junkies here in adventureland....LOL!

As much as I'd like to try an MMORPG, I just don't have the time for it, and since you pay a monthly fee it just isn't worth it for an a hour or two every evening.

They are SO much fun...I just love them!  Really, the monthly fees at 15 US dollars per month, really aren't bad.  It costs more than that for two people to go to a 2 hour movie here!

I play two games that require a monthly fee, so that's 30 dollars a month, basically a small utility bill, but...it keeps me sane!
It's a LOT cheaper than drugs....LOL! And even if I only play a few hours a day, it's SO well worth it.  There is always the weekend!  I just figure it as my entertainment budget, and I'm not a big one for eating out or going to the movies or anything.

It's all in priorities, isn't it??

I used to play MMORPGs; now, I stay at least ten light years away from any game looking remotely like one, given how much time I've [s]wasted[/s] spent playing these games.  :

Meh...I'd rather "waste" time playing a game than passively sitting and allowing a television to fill my mind with useless junk!  LOL

A lot of people can sit and watch television for hours....I just can't do that.  Our television hardly ever gets turned on, which is REALLY a shame, actually, since it is a movie theatre sized screen (about 4'x4').  BUT...when I DO get in that rare mood to watch Forensic Files...I can see stuff REAL BIG!

Probably some of what figures into this time factor and game thing here is that I am disabled....SO....I have a lot more time than some people.  In a day, I have time to do the things I need to around the house and STILL have hours to "waste."  Back when I was able to work....I didn't have as much time to devote to a hobby EITHER.

Yet even back then, I never considered a game a waste of time, even for my kids.  If homework is done...gaming is, should I say...."fair game."  I think gaming stimulates good eye/hand coordination and deductive reasoning, among other equally beneficial "brain exercises."  But that's just my opinion on it.

Of couse, I also have children that are very, very athlethic and spend loads of time playing sports too, so everything seemed balanced to me.

It's always interesting to hear how others think about these things, ya know?

Heh. I was only speaking about these MMORPGs, and not gaming as a whole. And the telly *is* nice: pretty fun to throw it around, really.  :

My biggest problem with MMORPGs now is that their basic recipe (chatting + the more or less deep stats/levelling layer) no longer seems to work for me. Gone are the days when I enjoyed playing these games for ten hours a day I guess.

I still have plenty of time available though (French universities have a *very* light schedule), and I could even claim I am actually working (I study English). My DSL works all the time now and is almost perfectly reliable, and while I would have some trouble with most paid MMORPGs (no international credit card), there are enough of them that are free or that come with pre-paid cards.

I guess the pleasure is simply no longer here... Okay, I will admit I have been thinking about resuming MMORPGs more than once.

Hey Girlgeek,
Ive considered playing and even started once a while back, but my hubby is so deep off into it, I decided I would wait until the hoopla died down, well, never happened that was back in January,  :
both of my sons were deep off into to it too, but they finally calmed down a bit, so instead of fighting for the time, Ive just been playing games on our other pc.  but ya never know, I might just start up soon, the colder weather is starting and the hubby will be doing some travelling for work, so he wont be around quite so much, I guess I can play it on the other pc. but thats not always easy either, thats the one my boys use the most and it can be a battle sometimes trying to get on, plus I know you cant just quit when you need to. We'll see, Ive been gettin the itch to try it again.

Hi KCgirlgeek, long time no see!

I've been thinking about doing this forever, but I play games so intermittedly.  I know quite a few people who are very enamored of World of Warcraft - oddly enough, WoW pretty big in the Myst game series fan community, including developers.

I know you also played Guild Wars - did you stop playing it?

I have WoW and Guild Wars, but I haven't started either.  I know Guild Wars isn't exacly like a standard MMORPG, but I might start with that later - no subscription fee.

Regards, mszv

Heya, msrv!
Good to see you over here!

I didn't play Guild Wars at all after the beta.  In my opinion, it totally pales in comparison to WoW and EQ2.  I play both World of Warcraft AND Everquest 2.  Guild Wars just didn't have the same depth.

If you ever decide to take "the plunge" look me up!  I'm on Everfrost server....usually playing on my main "Madiera", if I'm not using her, I'm Twuzziel, Happynhopful, or Seroquel....LOL!!!

The only MMORPG I play is Guild Wars, and that's only because it is free.

I used to play Star Wars Galaxies (which ended my MMORPG virginity) and spent a year of my life grinding away to become a Ranger, only to get EXTREMELY bored and quit.

I'll never go back to an MMORPG that requires a monthly fee.  I've been tempted with Wow, EQ2 and City Of Heroes, but have held my ground and have yet to buckle.

There is SO much content and so much NEW content added all the time to EQ2 anyway (and to a lesser degree to WoW) that I found the monthly fee of a mere 15 dollars COMPLETELY justifiable).  I would spend more than that on going out to eat just ONE time.  And I play these games DAILY....not just once a month.  Going to a movie for two people costs MORE than 15 dollars if you were to do THAT once a month.

I guess it just comes down to what kind of entertainment you find worthy of spending your 15 dollars on.  I think it is ridiculously reasonable entertainment....but that is me (oh yeah....and about 2 million other people).  hehe

KCgirlgeek, I've been playing WoW for 17 months now.  Just last night we did half of Molten Core.  I'm in a great guild and I love my main character (a gnome warlock).  WoW is my first-ever MMORPG and I love it.   I love the team aspect of it and the socializing (we're all on a voice server).

Remember, procrastinate now.  Don't put it off!!
