Status : Offline | I loved Clive Barker's Undying! It was one of the first games that I was scared to death to play, and didn't have a computer nearly up to the task, but the whole horror (but not sheer gore) genre enthralls me and I wanted to play it just cause I was afraid to.
Well, I and my little PII 400 with the Voodoo II card made it through it, and Undying had some great effects and ideas.
Even funny moments, too. Those floating things bobbing up and down near a castle you need to go into...just eerie.
I loved the weapons, and I am not one that enjoys weapons very much. There were other-worldly weapons like the "Skull Storm", where you hold a trio of cackling, laughing, and screeching skulls, and they are looking at YOU and making all that racket.
You see...they are "charging" up to get ready for you to let go of the mouse button so you can get rid of the mean zombie people. If you wait too long because you think they are really funny? They'll get YOU!
If you let go of the mouse button just at the right time (before they become not very funny and start acting weirder and weirder), they race off into the air raising Cain! It's funny!
I got a kick out that game, it took me a long time because I didn't try and race through it. You don't have to. And there are also some very funny Easter Eggs - like a particular donkey...
I'm proud I can say, I made it through a FSP/Action/Adventure/RPG game. It really wasn't that hard, but the atmosphere and the strange family story was hard to ignore.
I guess it didn't do as well as Dreamworks expected. I do have one or two Action games, and I like the scary Adventure games (but not games like Doom, or Resident Evil), so I wouldn't mind another Undying.
Undying had a lot more going for it than just some click-fest shooter. There was lots of exploring and clever puzzles, too.
And not as nearly as gory as Barker's HellRaiser movies. I don't like those that much.
If you can play URU or Grim Fandango - you can play Undying.
Just two cents.

WHAT'S YOUR PROBLEM!? Have you ever heard of freedom of speech? My friends and i really want a sequel, and we think a petition will get through to the developers.

So you're allowed freedom of speech but Jujigatame isn't. Weird.
Since Undying isn't an adventure game, you might have better luck posting this in the "Other Games" section of the forum.

You should be aware that the petition is a complete and utter waste of your time. That being said, your time is your own, you can do whatever you want with it.

Thanks for the description, Mark. I'm moving this game into my on-deck circle, just in time for Halloween.

Such an utter waste of time yep....
Even though a petition is one of the main reasons why "Telltale" games decided to break off and form their own company for adventure games after leaving lucasarts. After sam and max 2 got canned the fans oragnized a huge petition to bring it back against lucasarts and they saw it. Now they are working on Sam and Max 2.

Although Clive Barker's Undying was a pure 3D real-time action game, it did have a very strong story, great voice acting, amazing sound effects, wonderful graphics for the time, terrific gameplay with some very nice twists, loads of creepy atmosphere and several truly scary moments. IMO, it is one of the very best FPS ever made for the PC and I'd love to play a sequel.
On a side note, I liked it so much that I volunteered to do a full English transcript of all the spoken dialog for a friend from another game forum. He was creating a subtitled version in Italy and needed all the text in written form. It took quite a while since some of the vocal accents are so thick in that game. But eventually, we got through the entire process and he was able to finish the project.
Cheers, Terry

First off, the petition was aimed at Lucasarts, who completely and utterly ignored it. Sam & Max 2 remains shelved and probably will stay that way forever. It did inspire Telltale Games to break off from Lucasarts, but I'm not sold on them anyway. Episodic gaming is not an idea I'm interested in.
Secondly, the situations are totally different. Undying is a 5 year old game that EA never showed any interest in making a sequel to. Sorry, but it's just not happening, and this petition will not make a lick of difference.

I think the best way for one to promote a game that one likes is to write a few little positive things about the game.
It's far better advertising for the game than bickering on and on whether or not a petition is effective.
For example, one could read our Randy's review of Clive Barker's Undying to see what Randy thought.
He liked it, too (and wrote a very good review - even though Randy said he was only about 75% finished with the game at the time of his review).
I'm an optimist. I signed the petition. I would like to see a sequel or something similar to the story of the original Undying, for sure.
And Electronic Arts (EA) certainly has the money to publish a sequel to a really good game (and mentions little or practically nothing about the game on their website). I thought - like Randy - that it was silly to complain that it wasn't a Multi-Player game. (sigh)
It's a great game! Go visit the Covenant family, and get spooked out! [smiley=zombie.gif]

Uhh, you are aware that Telltale games have bought the rights to sam and max (and a lot of the devs worked on the first one/and on the second one) and they are working on making a new one.

Hence why I mentioned it....

I think he's aware of that and he's saying he's not interested in whatever episodic Sam & Max game Telltale has planned, a sentiment I must share. When/if they get around to releasing a full game for a fair price I'll be interested, not a moment earlier.
Plus it has no bearing on thin Undying petition. We're talking about fans rallying behind a cancelled game compared to fans wanting a sequel the company that owns the rights has never shown any interest in making. Petitions just don't work under those circumstances.
That's not pessimism, that's reality.
It's unfortunate too, because I'd like to see a sequel to Undying done by today's standards. The closest we've got at the moment is that Call of Cthulhu game that's coming out later this month (the Xbox version anyway, if the release date listed on GameStop.com can be believed), which looks awesome.

Anyway, Clive Barker is working on another game, Demonik, so perhaps you'll like that.

Too bad they don't have a good way to control the dificulty levels. When you have to play with trainers and cheets just to stay alive I will just have to stick with adventures, I guess.

That was the beauty of Max Payne, an action game that actually gauged how well you were doing in the game and made it easier or harder based on that. I wish more games did that.
