What's with that daft cat puzzle? All that trouble just to get some hair? I couldn't pick up the hat at first, but for some reason now he could. It kinda unlocked itself after a couple of hours, but I don't really see why I shouldn't have been able to pick it up in the first place. And I haven't even seen Mosely wearing a hat! :-/
The whole getting disguised as Mosely gig is just plain tedious - I just want Gabe to get the friggin' scooter and stop being such an ass!
Oh well, each to their own, eh?
Well, Gabriel couldn't pick the hat before due to the fact he didn't needed to!!!! Why to pick that up (steal it to be exact) with no reson? And i liked the Mosley disguis puzzel. It was fun (one of the only in the game). Wait until you need to get his passport. Give it a chanch, a great game!!!

| Deleted User | I've given it more than a chance, and I don't like it! Like the horse in Ren and Stimpy. If I want my character to nick a hat, then he should nick it! It's a moveable object! There's no point waiting - I ruled the hat out of the picture cause I couldn't interact with it, didn't even think about it again... and that's a problem!
I nicked his passport and have the moustache, hat and jacket. Now how come Gabe won't put the damn things on? ???

Dimi....it's odd, other 3D games don't bother me, but Loch Ness is a killer. For this reason I haven't bought the new Cameron Files, though the box tempts me often as it is the sole adventure on store shelves that I don't have.
Oh man...just thought of another 3D game that i had to stop playing due to the room spinning....Schizm! Those roller coaster-like movements from place to place.... :-X :-X

Status : Online | The hat thing is good. It maintains realism in the story. In GK1 it was possible to walk into the cathedral on Day 1, steal a priest's habit for no reason whatsoever, then a few days later come across a situation where, conveniently, a priest's habit is just what you need to progress. What a remarkable coincidence! Thank goodness I randomly stole the habit without any motive whatsoever earlier on! On a story level, this sequence of events is ridiculous.
So the hat situation prevents this. Gabriel doesn't steal a hat at random, then later on discover that it's useful. He finds himself in a situation where a hat would be useful, and so goes and steals the hat he saw earlier.
The problem is not with the design of the puzzle, the problem is that after years of being conditioned to pick up every damn thing that isn't nailed down, and to disregard anything that can't be picked up, players just don't expect it. And so we react angrily, because we feel we've been cheated - that's not how adventure games work, everybody knows that!
Personally, I think they should have put some sort of warning in the manual, so we'd know that Gabe would refuse to take something that didn't belong to him unless he had good reason.

It isn't one that is going to keep you playing into the wee hours but also not one that is going to tempt you to throw the cd out in the street which is where Final Cut almost wound up in the end.
Lock Ness is, how can I describe it, a neutral game. Okay to play but not going into any collector's category.

This game is PANTS! Incredibly linear and the puzzles have nothing to do with the game. There's a lack of an inventory and you cannot interact with the characters and environment too much. :-/

But you can't say that other KQ games didn't had action parts. I mean, KQ4. There is that part in the secret room, in the scary house. There is that stairway, and it's almost impossible to get up without dying (and all that for a stupid piano). And than, all the way down!!! Not forget about all those clips. At all, most of Sierra's early games had many action in them (SQ series, GK series, KQ, ETC....). I've never played KQ1-4, so I can't really vouch for those. The thing that bugged me most about MOE and Indy/Infernal Machine was that there was action around every bend. I'd have to kill all the bad guys before I could actually start adventuring. As soon as I'd enter a room or new location there'd be something taking a swing at me. Other games had action, yes, but not such a large quantity. For example in GK, the action sequences didn't appear until towards the end. Even a part-RPG series like QFG seemed to have less action than MOE or Indy. Fate of Atlantis had its "Fists" path, but there weren't that many villains to deal with.

As for GK3, I'm making progress! After combining those items, I managed to get the bike and am following people around trying to figure out what everyones doing. It's started to get interesting at last!

Different things give people motion sickness. For me it's first person 3D movement, like in RealMyst. I have to slow the movement down a LOT in order to play it. Fortunately the patch allows this.
Loch Ness was not a great game, but as Dreamcatcher games go it was a good game. I liked it (except for that timed underwater part), but then it didn't give me motion sickness. I played it on a 233 MHz computer and controlling the panning speed with my trackball was not difficult on that computer. Unless you can slow down the movement somehow, it may not be worth your playing. It isn't an adventure gamer "must-play" the way the Gabriel Knight series is.
I think my least favorite adventure game was Chateau D'Or... because it had almost no puzzles, bugs, and a pop quiz that was all too reminiscent of school drudgery. The one place in the game where you could read something that would tell you what you were doing was in the middle of a timed sequence. The fact that the game was also incredibly short could be seen as an advantage since it was over with quickly. It was a big disappointment, especially considering I got suckered into paying $40 for it when it first came out. Suffice it to say I've been more careful with my money ever since.

The thing about the hat puzzle is that Gabe can't pick it up unless there is a reason to do so - i mean, would u really choose to wear a hat like that unless u were really deperate! It just adds a bit of realism to the gaming experience.

| Deleted User | Hey Anastasia and JP,
I'm now back in Gabes shoes after moonlighting as Gracie. It's a good game, I'll give it that, with a good plot, but I find the camera system and the unlocking can be a bit frustrating. There's nothing worse than a character not picking something up or not doing something for no reason! I
t isn't realistic, it just limits interaction. If Gabe said "I don't need that right this second" instead of dismissing the hat, that would've been more of a clue.
Still, I'm enjoying it and playing it alongside NOLF2 really helps. Tired and frustrated? NOLF2 works to relieve stress. Need to relax? GK3's sedate pace helps, even though eye strain sets in after a while!
But I am glad I'm playing it. I'm gonna keep on truckin' along, and just hope that I finish it before Unreal 2 comes along. I've been waiting for that since last year!
Developers and "slippage", huh?

After finishing the game, if you won't have the whole 965 points (which you probably won't have) use the full walkthrough on JA to complete everything. It's almost impossible finishing the game with all 965 points without one. You have probably missed a lot by now...

I never got the full score. I never used the walkthrough totally, only when I was really stuck! The best score I got was somewhere around 900 (maybe 925 - cant remember now) What did you get ?

Status : Online | The first time I completed it (without Walkthrough) I just got around 700 points (If I remember correctly). For instance, Montreux caught Grace when she entered his mansions attic, so I did miss the "skull mechanism" puzzle. I missed alot of things (some fingerprints, clues, facts, conversations) ...
That is one reason why I love this games. The replayability value ...
The second time (with Walkthrough) I got around 960. I never attained the entire score (yet )
But i think there is no extended epilouge if you get all the 965 points (Larry 7 has one) so it does not matter anyway. (at least I tell myself that it does not )

Black Dahlia, although I always entered the cheat codes for the silly puzzles (i.e rune one) I enjoyed it alot.
Faust is the game i'm next going to play, hope i don't notice the bugs!

Turn off your brain and try again...I actually had fun with this game. But opening the gate is possibly the very worst and most illogical thing I ever encountered.

Yes, it's quite radical, but keep in mind, he lost his wallet and NOBODY at the station is helping him with anything at all. But he needs the money, because he needs success in this case, otherwise he will probably lose his job. It's a desperate situation which justifies the desperate actions. It's true. This game doesn't care much about morals and ethics.
