How do game developers publicize cheat codes without ruining their games?  Ive got simple cheat codes to get around two of the harder puzzles in my game, and I'm not sure if I should list these cheat codes on the games web page or if that would be spoiling the fun.  As it stands now, anytime anyone e-mails me or posts on a hint board that they're stuck on one of these puzzles, I privately e-mail them the cheat code.  The puzzles in question are a slider and a similar type button puzzle.

Make the cheat code "I'm too lame to solve this on my own". That should make people think before they use it

Hi Mike,

I've never seen cheat codes published on an individual game web site, but I play mostly adventure games.  Cheat codes seem to be more heavily used in other game genres.  I think your way of doing it is very kind and personal.  Such a  kind, personal reponse would make people want to play your game, and the next one too!  Of course, it's rather labor intensive.

Another way of doing it might be to have the walkthrough writers publish the cheat codes.  You could email the people who wrote the walkthroughs and ask them to include the cheat codes.  I see there is a walkthrough on gameboomers, and I'll bet there will be one soon on Just Adventure.   I also don't think it would be bad to publish the cheat codes yourself, in one of the game hint threads on Just Adventure and Gameboomers.  That way, people could search for a cheat code and get it, should they need it.

All for now.
Regards, mszv
