Sound system was loud, but distorted as if they were driving their amps/speakers too hard from a rather narrow sound-stage. Also, 2 large screens at the ampitheatre remained blank. They did have their own screen behind the stage, but it mostly showed ridiculous video-hijinks instead of them playing- which would be nice when you're sitting even half-way back as we were.

The future ain't what it used to be!

- Led Zeppelin's "The Immigrant Song"
- Christina Aquilera's version of "Reflection" from the Mulan soundtrack
- Can't Help Falling In Love (With You), The A*Teens' version of the same Elvis song from the Lilo and Stitch soundtrack
- Tunder's "Wachet auf! Ruft uns die Stimme", performed by De Reyghere (Gott im Himmel! What a voice!), accompanied by The Ricercar Consort
- Invocación Y Danza, a solo acoustic guitar piece composed by Joaquin Rodrigo, and performed by guitarist (not the film composer) John Williams
- Klavierstücke, Opus 188 -No. 6: Intermezzo in E flat Major, performed by Helčne Grimaud, piano
- "Weird Al" Yankovic's Good Old Days, an original by Al, and Smells Like Nirvana, a parody of Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit"
- Brahms' 2nd Piano Concerto in B flat Major - not sure of the pianist, orchestra, or conductor - just too lazy to look
You know; a little of this, a little of that, but mostly I listen to...nothing. I listen for a little peace and quiet.
But, alas - there is no such thing as complete silence around us.
There's those fabulous little birds; those sweet little darlings of chirps, tweets, shrieks, blood-curdling squawks, and spine-tingling "SQUACKS!!!".
Always chipper, those little feathered bastards of song.
Lovely.
Don't get me started on light pollution.

There's a lot'a bad sound guys at the board. They need some talent there... It's really not about volume, it's the mix and EQ. My hearing is shot due to some FOH guys delivering ice picks into my ears at too many concerts.
Best sounding concert I've ever been to is Jackson Browne. It was loud, but sweet. The sound just moved--it was great. Another one was Yes in a small venue, surround sound (Alan Parson's opening). It was a great sound experience.
Though if you get a floor/front seat to the side and are sitting in front of a column, forget it.
Eh?

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, wine in the other screaming, "WOO HOO what a ride!!!

"Those poor audience-goers. They are sitting in front of those huge distortion monoliths and have no idea that what they are hearing is 40-50 dB (decibels) louder than the musicians hear on-stage."
I recently had my ears checked. I have suffered absolutely no loss of hearing. I was especially pleased to hear that even at my age, I can still hear perfectly ultra-high upper frequencies that commonly deteriorate with aging.
Take earplugs to concerts. When the sound is so loud it hurts, it is like SirDave said - it's not the volume level in itself.
It's the distortion at an unbearable volume level that results from over-driving P.A. (Public Address) amplifiers and speakers beyond their peak watts RMS (root mean square) capacity.
Guitarists do this on purpose for sustain and distortion effects - but on much smaller amplifiers.
The guitarists are also closer to their on-stage amps to get the "feedback" that is necessary for that sustain effect through the guitars electronic steel string "pickups" (the little rectangular-shaped steel doo-hickeys with nobbies on them - usually located under the strings - to pick up the weak electric guitar strings signal...and then amplify it to a, uh, "pleasurable" [s]screech[/s] [s]hell[/s] sound).
