I started to post this in the Dr. Who thread, but figured I was taking it way off topic and thought starting a new thread would be better.  So...

This could be fun.  So what genre would some of these GREAT, yes GREAT, British TV series be best served by? AG or FPS?

Dr. Who
The Avengers (luv ya Emma!)
The Prisoner
Secret Agent Man
The Saint
Space: 1999 (ok, loved it as a kid, hate it as an adult)

Are you being Served? and Allo, Allo, and Keeping up Apearances would probably be pretty funny AGs.

Any of the Hammer House of Horror shows would make excellent AGs.

(My apolgies in advance for for missing any others.  My knowledge is quite limited being in the US.)

Any other good ones I missed?

Ahhh, looks like some people have already taken a stab at Space: 1999.

.

Since all those great British TV shows (and many others) relied on great writing with indelible characters and loads of witty dialog, I fail to see how the FPS genre could do any of them justice - not even the action-oriented programs. So in one form or another (including possible action-adventure adaptations), the AG genre is a no-brainer.

Cheers,  Terry

None of the ones I'm familiar with sound like they'd make a good FPS, but The Avengers would probably be a mix of martial arts and adventure (like Omikron if you took out the FPS component).

I agree.  Although they all have some action elements, they are, primarily, shows that require solving puzzles and mysteries.

Yes! Diana is the Best spy woman (and spy's girlfriend...) in the world!

*How about "The Persuaders!" ('71-'72)? Very nice movie.

Pah! Without doubt, the most suitable British series for an adventure game is Sapphire and Steel

You have:

  • two equally strong main characters with great interaction and dialogue possibilities

  • puzzling puzzles when you try and work out exactly what went wrong in the timestream

  • spooky atmosphere

  • the ability to use different character attributes to investigate, persuade and use items to obtain psychic impressions from them

Hey, there ARE Monty Python games, 4 or so, and at least 3 are categorised as "adventures".

Personally I go for Red Dwarf and Mr. Bean

Forgive my ignorance here. League of Extraordinary Gentlemen was a British TV series?

True, yes. I love those games, but a *real* Python adventure (not some sort of multimedia/puzzle game) would be terrific.

Meaning Of Life is certainly the most adventure-y one but it's the worst

The League of Gentlemen was a BBC show- no relation to the graphic novel or film League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.

That's right..I was refering to the TV series ...not any relation to the graphic novel or the movie....

...but in that matters, there's hardly any relation between the movie and the graphic novel (which is a shame)....

I LOVE the Avengers.  I have the complete series with Emma on DVD.  Each one was excellent and top-notch.  I want to get the others, but I'm afraid that without Diana Rigg, they just won't be the same.

The Avengers was covered by both "No One Lives Forever" games. Exploding lipsticks. Ninja's with parental issues. Psychotic cats. The games may involve some shooting, but the enemies say 'ouch'.

Good point.  It probably explains why I loved that game.  But that would have been strictly Emma.  Part of the charm of the Avengers was the interaction between her and Steed.
