Shady Brook has a much larger cast of characters and larger area to explore with an equally involved story. I loved Lifestream and Shady Brook, but lean more towards LifeStream in terms of trying to figure out what was going on.
Either way, both are excellent indie adventures to add to your collection.
I believe Shady Brook goes on sale this Monday (1 Aug 2005) if Chris gets the disks back on time from the duplicators.
NOTE: This is a GREAT price as well for what you get and Shady Brook is only on DVD!!

BTW ... IMO (which of course is the only one I can give) it is a very good game for an Indie, and at that price!!
((( In general, I'm also very happy to see good Indie Developers, and Chris seems to be improving with experience all the time ... I believe he has another one on the way already ?!
N.B. Nearly all the [male] voice actings are done by the ubiquitous & talented John Bell ! )))

BTW, I too was a beta tester on both of Chris' games, and believe he is a master story teller. Even though I helped in the creation of each of his games, (puzzles in Lifestream and graphics in Shady Brook), he didn't tell me the entire story line, so when I played the beta version, it was a surprise to me. And in each game, I couldn't quit playing because I constantly wanted to find out what happened next. Just like in a really good book. So for all you folks out there who are craving adventure games with really good, SOLID stories, Christopher Brendel is your man!!

Hi Mike, We haven't been in direct contact for some time. But I believe you did some VERY important work on Shady Brook.
The story is definitely very interesting without being outlandish, and the characters make you feel part of this small (but sinister) town.

I agree. With both Lifestream and Shady Brook, I was really wrapped up in the story trying to figure out what was going on. Not many AGs have that affect on me. Chris feeds you little bits and pieces at a time and keeps the curiosity factor high.
Harvest and The Arrangement also had this affect, but the endings fell a bit flat - sorry Mike!
Either way, both Mike and Chris are extremely talented indie developers that just need to hone their games a little more to make them more commercial quality. I can overlook the shortcomings, but unfortunately most people can't which hurts sales and holds them back from their rightful place amongst the best of the indies. Story, production, and puzzle-wise, they are already there and surpass most.

Just a quick note that Shady Brook is now available for purchase exclusively at www.upforums.com/store.
The reason for the ship date listed (on or before August 10) is JUST IN CASE the DVDs arrive here late. I was promised that they'd get here in the middle of this week, though, so chances are that all orders will go out before next weekend!

I have to say I find some of the locations in Shady Brook more appealing than the latest ND game

But I have to say that Shady Brook looks nice and I have plans to purchase this game soon, as I have some time to play it.
