| Deleted User | There seems to be a number of strong games in the pipeline. It is hard to boil it down to a single choice but if I had to I would put my money on The Longest Journey 2. Followed very closely by Syberia 2.
Story is always my number one motivator. Realistic character development is also very important to me. Both of the first games had excellent plots (I played about 1/4 of Syberia before a technical glitch) but I found the characters in The Longest Jouney to be very likable. I was VERY disappointed when it was over.
I plan to get back to Syberia soon and I suspect that by the time I finish it will be tied with The Longest Journey.

Status : Online | Story and interesting characters are also very important to me. But I don't think I could categorize which aspect of a game are most important. I think everything plays it is own special role. So I think graphics, music, gameplay and controls are also equally important.
Those games (Longest Journey, Syberia, GK) were great and distinguished from all the others because they performed excellent in most of their aspects.
U really should get back to Syberia. It is an excellent game and the story just gets better and better. It is this kind of story that it climaxes as the games progresses and u just want to reach the final solution. Something like an orgasm just kidding. Something like in Longest Journey.
But my personal opinion is that TLJ was a better game overall than Syberia. I liked the controls in TLJ much better than in Syberia, there were more characters to speak to, the graphics were more colourful and the story seemed a little bit better.
Though I can't say this about the story for sure right now... I haven't finished it yet and I think it is not right to judge a story before its end. There were movies that seemed to me quite good just some minutes before the end, and the end was so twisted that it made me consider them as classics (i.e. 6th sense, Arlington road, shawshank redemption and Usual suspects).
The biggest advantage so far of TLJ compared to Syberia is the controls. The game was amazingly user friendly. This option of scrolling your inventory items with a push of a single button was superb and highly innovative. I wonder why nobody else has adopted this idea yet.
And I agree with you about the end. The first thing I thought during the end was 'Where is the 5th cd?'
I reaaaallly hope they will do a second one. But judging from the fact that the first one took like 5 years to be developed I hope they have already started developing the sequel. I don't want to be a pensioner when no 3 comes out

Exciting adventures up ahead. A lecture on mammoths anyone?
Cheers, Omnia

Status : Online | Hrmm... lemme think. Well, TLJ2 is a given. But it's a long way off and I'm not holding my breath yet. Maybe closer to it's release. Did I dream this, or did someone say something about a Full Throttle 2? Ohh, I'd love to get my hands on that baby. Gabriel Knight 4, either as a game or a book. In fact, the next Jane Jensen book would be excellent. Way Of The Samurai, because I just love feudal era Japan. Now, am I right in thinking that they're still making The Neverending Story game? If that's still on, I'm all up for that one. Syberia. I've not got a copy, I'm saving it You know, like a fine wine and all.
-Edit- And a 'Werewolf: The Apocalypse' game. Someone was working on it a few years back, but they went bancrupt and the game was canned. But I still want one!

As far as I remember the original plans for the Neverending Story game have been scrapped and all that's left is a glorified platform game, which is dissapointing if true.
Sam and Max 2 and Full Throttle 2 look promising (providing they don't end up being more action than adventure). Not too sure about Broken Sword 3 though.

| Deleted User | The DarkFall guy is named Jonathan Boakes. He is a super nice guy and very talented (IMHO). He is currently working on another DarkFaLL type game.
When he finished DarkFall he was working on a game that I believe was called Splinter. He was able to sell that to another developer. Now he can put all of his time and effort on DarkFall 2.
I ordered DarkFall when it was first available but I have not had the change to play it yet, however, judging from the reviews that I have read, people are loving it.

Aaah, tell me it isn't so! I've been a fan of Neverending Story for as long as I can remember. Even got a copy of it in the origional language. They can't scrap it all up now :'(

Status : Online | Wolfboy -- Unfortunately I think I'm right about the Neverending Story (i seem to recall seeing some news items about it either being cancelled or stripped down then totally re-made with some kind of a goblin-thing as a main character)
Hopefully I'm wrong, otherwise its a terrible waste of some really good material. I remember the book was pretty good (and the movie was one of the few fantasy films that worked prior to FoTR).
*Update*
DOH! Just suddenly realised the banner at the foot of THIS PAGE was a link to the damned game's website!! :-[ :-[
It's called Auryns Quest and is "An exciting arcade-style action adventure game in 1st person perspective."
...Which is never a good sign. There's a demo provided so maybe someone with a faster modem connection can try it and let us know if my fears are confirmed or not?
* End Update *
SamuelSPereira -- I missed out on Sanitarium when it was first released and by the time I got round to look for a copy it had come and gone from the shops. D'you think it's worth tracking it down from somewhere?
Harriet@JA -- Darkfall is fantastic. I don't normally like most "Myst" Style adventures that much but I played this one obsessively over the weekend I got it. Hopefully it'll get the recognition it certainly deserves and I can't wait to see what Jonathan comes up with next. Did I read something about it being set in a lighthouse or did I just dream that ???

| Deleted User | Cerebrus, No you didn't dream the lighthouse concept. According to Jonathan the next game will be set in a "lonely island-bound Edwardian lighthouse that has been plunged into darkness". That alrady makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up.

I'm also looking forward to Myst Online - the massively multiplayer online game in the Myst series. Myst Online (also called Mudpie and Parable) is supposed to be out in 2003.
All for now.

The 4th disc of Shenmue 2 was amazing, I have been itching to play the next installment ever since I completed it. I need this game. I wish they would hurry up & finish porting #2 to xbox so they can get started on the next chapter.

By the end of the game, I was promising to hurl my dreamcast out the window if the main character ever said "Is that so?" again. But then, I'm also the kind of guy that watched subtitled anime, so I'm bound to be picky about that Is there a planned release date for Shenmue 3?
