I get lost too easily. I couldn't finish Rhem 1. Still waiting for the rescue team to arrive and helicopter me to safety.... or, failing that, some other sucker to arrive by train so I can sneak off ....

But I do keep going back to Rhem2 just for the fun of it. Can't say the same thing for Lights Out.

Status : Online | After playing Rhem I for about half an hour, I had become totally lost, and realized that unless I was locked up in solitary confinement in Folsom or San Quentin for 20 years with my computer and the game, there would be no finishing of this game without a walk-thru. So I printed up the most detailed one I could find and proceeded to follow its instructions meticulously, mouse-click by mouse-click. And even so, when I was probably about 90% of the way through the game, I made a wrong turn or threw a wrong switch or something, and became again hopelessly lost. This was shortly after Rhem I came out, and I gave up at this point. Now, I am going to have to reload the game and try again, before tackling Rhem II.

Half an hour isn't enough for a game like Rhem. Not by a long shot. Getting lost, drawing a map, making notes, figuring out what those buttons and levers do, that's the fun of it.
Following a walkthrough doesn't make it any easier. On the contrary. All the backtracking and attempts to solve problems that help gamers to find their way, have been done for you.
But I agree with Jenny, although I haven't gotten very far and I'm taking it very slowly. It's easier to know where you are in Rhem 2, there are more landmarks and more mysterious signs, buttons and clues on the way, which helps a lot. Elevators and higher/lower levels still confuse me, but that's just me.

I heartily agree. After all the to-ing and fro-ing, much of Rhem was like an old familiar neighborhood.

Status : Online | I actually printed out a map of RHEM 1 after wandering around for about a month, and it confused me more... so I took my time and ended making my own map. I can nagivate much better, but the puzzles still stumped me... so this is one of those games taht I'll probably take a few years to finish...

I wonder how many other people spent considerable time on this without making a map. I don't think I played it much past the intro before reaching for the graph paper. Doesn't this kind of game demand a map?

I mentioned some time ago how my own map of Rhem looks absolutely hilarious, mainly because it consists of several sheets of paper (instead of one large page), with dozens of arrows and notes like "continued on page 3a - Radio Complex" scribbled on the edge! : Also, I forgot to map a 90-degree turn somewhere, so one of my pages looks stupidly wrong (more arrows! :) Silly me. :-[
One of the best maps of Rhem can be found here. It's incredibly detailed , but of course, contains a ton of spoilers! Use at your own risk!
Looking forward to Rhem 2, T.

Hey, that sounds exactly like the maps I draw! I start mapping and run out of paper to the left, new sheet, run out of paper to the right, start all over again to do it better the second time and end up with dozens of sheets. Levels are a huge problem for me too, although I use different colored pencils.

Yea, that was the map that I tried to use, Trunkyo, but it confused me more... so I went back to my scribblings :-)

A couple of screens would remind me, so I'd just draw a basic connecting map. It sort of reminds me of an octopus cavorting with several bagpipes.

BTW, I'll be replaying RHEM soon, in anticipation of the sequel... I'll probably make my 13-year old cousin Kevin play it as well! ("Here, take this very, very large sheet of paper..." ) I'm being the evil cousin right now [smiley=devil_smiley_grintail.gif], "coercing" him to play Alida during his summer vacation (eventually rewarding him with the new Harry Potter book!)
He really loves funny 3rd-person adventures (Monkey Island series, DOTT, Sam & Max), but I usually have to give him some kind of "incentive" to play 1st-person games! *wonders if "RHEM" stands for the names of Knut Müller's wife and sons ???*

| Deleted User | I'm enjoying Rhem 2 a lot. So far, it's even better than the first Rhem, thanks to Knut's improvements. Not that I've made much progress... I've solved only one multi-step puzzle to gain access to new areas, and trying to make sense of the many clues.
