So what would be your perfect place to live? Anywhere with decent broadband service?
Most of my life I've lived in a big city, several years in a much smaller city, and weeks and months in the country. They all have their advantages and disadvantages, but only big cities have enough traffic for me to hate it. I don't think any of them is clearly 'best'.
I forgot my sig.

Plus, I need shops.
Adelaide is a small but complete city with 32 miles of continuous white sandy beaches. And good weather and no humidity. [smiley=love.gif]

I suppose I technically live in the country now, but it doesn't feel like it as I see the country side around me become more and more developed I find myself wanting to move to the "real" country (i.e., you can't see your nearest neighbor).
And, like Michal, I say if there's decent broadband there, that's all that counts!

I live in a decent-sized town with all the shops and amenities within walking distance; I can also walk to the beach, and I just need to go to the end of my street to be in the countryside.
Sheffield is a horrible, grey, depressing place. I've walked all day and still not reached the edge of the city.

Right there, Right on the edge. Beyond anything you can see and feel. Ideal? Perhaps. Perhaps not. That place, where you end and I begin.

A lakeside house (Ontario's full of them) is a consideration, but I know that waterside property has a higher population of gigantic spiders - yuck. The desert is not appealing since I love my temperate garden, and because I enjoy snowy winters, mountains would not be a prudent choice. The country would be my ideal, as long as there was cable . I'm in a suburb right now and the proximity of my neighbors bugs me. I suppose one of those elite suburbs with 1 - 2 acre lots would be good.

I think what would be really ideal, is to own several houses in different places.

I've mostly lived in small towns my whole life and it has it's advantages and disadvantages. The short amount of time I spent in a large city was miserable to me because of the traffic and crowds. I hope to find something in-between that's just right for me, preferably in the mountains.

So, if I wanted to go to the beach it would be 2 hours by car and also by airplace back to my hometown.
It was also frightening when Hurricane Greg hit once. That's one risk living so near to the ocean.
I rather live near the city. I can't live in the countryside here because I'd have to go all the way to the city to get everything that I want. I can't live in my hometown because there's so many illegal immigrants from Indonesia and Philliphines. I have had it with things being publicly stolen and other terrible things that had happen publicly >.

Hey, I love some of the other places, but I prefer to visit them here and there. Day to day, I like to be near to lots of the things I like to do.
Eh?
Besides, the fire hydrants are all over the place in the city.

Too many bugs and dirt outside. I have this thing about/against bugs. [smiley=hair_pull.gif] [smiley=thumbsdown.gif]

No, me too.
I love the city, and I wouldn't live elsewhere. I like having everything "around the corner".

Actually, I'm about to move next month. I will be at the foot of mountains after moving, as opposed to 45 minutes away like I am now. Not bad, but I really like mountains.

Frank, my new pal!
See, the thing is, I love the great outdoors, but even if you live in the great outdoors, you still have a lot of driving to do, unless the only great outdoors you do is the one in your backyard. So why not drive from the city when you need the great outdoors?
The Burbs? I don't want to offend anyone--I know this is considered a safe haven for raising a family and whatnot--but they're often lacking in 'soul'. Not all of them, but most I've lived in were pretty lacking in that.
As far as family goes, I don't have children, but if I did, I would want them to be raised immersed in culture. The kids in the burbs hang out in the Taco Bell parking lot--no thanks for any progeny of mine.
Yes, urban life can have it's down sides too. I just prefer it, balancing the pros and cons.
Eh?
