Interesting thread, missed this one before!
I'm pretty sure I played over 50 adventure games, don't know whether I've actually finished 50 of those though. I'll have to put some thought into constructing my personal top 50 before I put down a list here. Pretty sure LSL3, GK2, KQ6, KQ4, Sam & Max, the two Broken Sword games, Grim Fandango and Discworld will be in the highest regions. And I'll have the same nr. 1 as Elfstone, Gabriel Knight 3 is still the undefeated best adventure game of all time if you ask me.

You surprise me with your inclusion of TLJ in your top10...I would never have thought that it ranks higher on your list than on mine.

why is that? yes, it is true that 99% of the overhyped games do not deserve the hype they get, but tlj was an exception! probably one of the best adventures released the last decade!
too bad its sequel seems like a console teenage gamers oriented hybrid... :-/

Yeah, too bad this crazy-big list will vanish soon.
Perhaps we should have one of those threads sticky and everytime a person changes the list it will be replaced with the new one. Some kind of "members for members personal AG list".

i don't know if it could stay sticky here... but if it can't, maybe it could be moved to the archives, where it would stay unlocked so that ppl can update or post new lists (as long as they remember it's there!)

Ok, looks like I'm a bit late coming onto this thread... oh well

Let's have at it then...

#1 Mystery of the Nautilus
#2 Simon the Sorceror 3D
#3 ...

whoops....

Let's try again, shall we?

1.   Gabriel Knight 1: Sins of the Fathers
2.   Grim Fandango
3.   Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis
4.   Monkey Island 1
5.   Broken Sword 1
7.   King's Quest 6
8.   Gabriel Knight 3
9.   Rama
10. Gabriel Knight 2

11. Sherlock Holmes: Rose Tattoo
12. Day of the Tentacle
13. Monkey Island 3
14. The Longest Journey
15. Monkey Island 2
16. Zork: Grand Inquisitor
17. Shivers
18. Kyrandia
19. Neverhood
20. Toonstruck
21. Woodruff and the Schnibble
22. 7th Guest
23. King's Quest 5
24. Freddy Pharkas: Frontier Pharmacist
25. Connections

26. Lost in Time
27. King's Quest 4
28. King's Quest 7
29. Gold Rush
30. Space Quest 5
31. Kyrandia 2
32. Beneath a Steel Sky
33. Myst 3
34. Gobliiins 3
35. Dagger of Amon Ra
36. Dragonsphere
37. Phantasmagoria
38. Sam 'n Max hit the Road
39. Operation Weather Disaster
40. Sherlock Holmes: Serrated Scalpel
41. The Dig
42. Myst
43. Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
44. Loom
45. Kyrandia 3
46. Duckman
47. Death Gate
48. Other Worlds
49. King's Quest 3
50. Pleurgburg: Dark Ages

That's better...

Wow, people aren't kidding... that did take forever. I had to cut like 20 games off the list to get it down to 50. It also made me aware of how much of my life was spent playing these games...

It also felt weird writing out the full names of some of these games... at first my list looked like: "GK1, Grim Fandango, FOA, MI1, BS1, KQ6, GK3, Rama, GK2, Sherlock Holmes: Rose Tattoo, DOTT, MI3, TLJ, MI2, Z:GI, etc...." and then I realized that maybe newcomers to the genre would appreciate the full titles...

And yes, I bribed the_cranky_hermit so that the forum list's #1 and #2 spots would go to GK1 and Grim Fandango

Drat! I haven't played 50 adventure games. If it was a top 20  I could have made a list but for now it's impossible...sigh.

Deleted UserI can't give them an exact rating... I mean, 35 or 38, does it really make all that much difference?

1-10 They're all Number One to me! (But for very different reasons.)

The Last Express - Riven - Obsidian - Zork GI - Grim Fandango - Neverhood - Day of the Tentacle - Discworld 1 - Bad Mojo - Alice: An Interactive Museum

11-20

Sherlock Holmes: The Case of the Rose Tattoo - Tex Murphy: Pandora Directive  - Space Bar - Dark Side of the Moon - Temujin - Black Dahlia - Dark Fall - Dark Eye - Feeble Files - Discworld Noir

20-30

Barrow Hill - Gadget - Shadow of Destiny - Blue Heat - Indiana Jones: Fate of Atlantis  - Full Throttle  - Broken Sword 1 - Bad Day on the Midway - Tex Murphy: Overseer - Trinity (IF)

30-40

The Longest Journey - Moment of Silence - Callahan’s Crosstime Saloon - Loom - Myst Exile - Isabelle - Stupid Invaders - Ceremony of Innocence - Amber - Journeyman Project 2

40-50

GAG - Noir: A Shadowy Thriller - Sam & Max - Byzantine: The Betrayal - Mode - Al Emmo - Gabriel Knight 2 - Duckman - Rhem 2 - Tex Murphy: Under a Killing Moon

Hors concours: Puppet Motel (a multimedia experience) and Louis Cat Orze (children's edutainment game, but great fun)

it's actually even better, if you consider that the colonel's bequest and uninvited are practically unmovable!

Now we're talking!  8-)

maybe i should have put a note there though, saying "with someone else taking over the controls!"

And inspired by Aya's example (including clickable pictures and everything
), I'll finally post my adventure game top 50. I must say though that I haven't completed all games on this list, but have played them sufficiently long enough to rank them. There are also some games near the bottom of the list that I don't rate that highly, but needed to get to 50. Both remarks imply that this top 50 could change very, very quickly.

I'm pleased this made your list - being fairly recent, rather ignored by many and so forth. I liked Voyage, too. I was about to give it up at first play but after I landed on the moon, things really picked up. A real sweet game. Not a mean bone in its body. Or should I say, no body. The Selenites didn't seem to have bodies. Just regular appendages (arms, legs) and...a head. I still don't know how they worked that out.

Aya really likes Other Worlds, Alkis. He really does. He didn't say that he likes your game because he's a bud. No, Aya wouldn't do that. He really likes your game. Really. He does. Really. A lot of people do. They do. Really.

TO ALKIS: But who is that ugly kid in your avatar, Alkis? Am I going to have to stare at that kid in your upcoming game? I just want to smack him. So, I'm going to buy your new game here, in America, for top dollar from my choice of a multitude of retailers so you can buy a Grecian villa and retire to a life of opulence...and then I'll have to look at that kid? Who is that, anyway. Is that you? Can you close his mouth? Seriously, I think your new game is going to be really something, Alkis. You seem inspired.

Please proofread your posts carefully to see if you any words out.

darkseed 2 is not as good... it's also incredibly easy, as opposed to ds1 which is incredibly hard (and unfair at time!)... great story, captivating atmosphere, tough puzzles (and some unfair ones!) and h.r.giger!

the moment of silence is NOT in wimli's list because he thinks it's a good game.  it's there to fill the gap...

Thanks Alkis! How about an update on yours?
Would be nice to see some more updated lists here from people who posted here long time ago, like Aya did.

Jep, Betje is right about that one.
It'll probably take only one game to kick out MoS. While I finished it, unlike some of the others on the list, it's not exactly one of the best adventure games. Like I said, expect my list to change a lot as I still have lots of classic adventures left to play.  8-)

Thanks Alkis! How about an update on yours?
Would be nice to see some more updated lists here from people who posted here long time ago, like Aya did.

Not much to update... I've only had time to play something like 15 adventure games since I made the list, and out of them only Scratches would make it into my Top 50 (no Aya, Black Mirror doesn't make it)... perhaps as #23, after Future Wars and before The Book of Spells.

You can check my Top-30 of Adventure games characters if you like.

Do you like classic adventure games? Check out Diamonds in the Rough!
