Day of the Tentacle, Fate of Atlantis, etc. I had real trouble filling out the bottom third or so with games; I've only played 70-80 adventures, and filling out the bottom third with games I felt were deserving was a problem.
I will not, however, apologize for puzzle and puzzle heavy games popping up in strange places.
50. Qin 49. Princess Tomato in the Salad Kingdom (An odd choice, I realize, but an early seminal game for me) 48.Creature Crunch 47. Harvest 46. The 11th Hour 45. Connections 44. Golden Gate 43. Martian Memorandum 42. Post Mortem 41. Black Mirror 40. Pandora's Box 39. Broken Sword 3 38. Jewels of the Oracle 37. Safecracker 36. Monkey Island 4 35. Runaway 34. Bad Mojo 33. Out of This World (Yeah, not a pure adventure, but a fine game and very original) 32. Amerzone 31. Syberia 30. Aura 29. Mean Streets 28. Shadowgate 27. Discworld 26. In Memoriam 25. Myst 3 24. Maniac Mansion 23. Riddle of the Sphinx 22. Uninvited 21. Deja Vu 20. Monkey Island 2 19. The Fool's Errand (Also a stretch for an adventure, but a truly superb game anyway) 18. Riven (Should really be higher, but this reflects the fact I tackled it as a novice, and didn't enjoy it as much as I probably would now. A replay now should bump it up on the list.) 17. Broken Sword 2 16. The 7th Guest 15. Full Throttle 14. Journeyman Project 2 13. Sanitarium 12. Monkey Island 3 11. Gabriel Knight 3 10. Sam & Max Hit the Road 9. The Neverhood 8. Journeyman Project 3 7. Monkey Island 1 6. Broken Sword 1 5. Grim Fandango 4. Gabriel Knight 2 3. Gabriel Knight 1 2. Myst 1. Obsidian

Still left a number of games out that I would like to have fit in somewhere but that wasn't too bad, except for deciding order. Should mention that I havent played Myst 4 yet, or Tex Murphy, Byzantine, Feeble Files, Grim Fandango or quite a few other classics. I always have trouble picking the next one especially with the new ones from Christmas waiting as well (Aura, Sherlock Holmes: Silver Earring, etc) Didnt include Pandora's Box, the Jewels of the Oracle games, Monty Python's Complete Waste of Time, or the Puzzle 3D titles because there's hardly any story worth mentioning in any of them. Did enjoy the puzzles very much. [smiley=angel_smiley.gif]

I have an even tougher time with personal lists like this because I really enjoy so many different types of PC games in a number of different genres - including all the various combinations of gameplay and the true hybrids. So my genre lists always create a problem with crossover definitions and there are just so many good titles that might qualify.
If we could narrow down the list into logical sub-categories like puzzle-heavy point & click adventures, story driven adventures, action-adventures and adventure hybrids it would be a lot easier to organize our personal favorites together in smaller groups. Then perhaps we could do some direct comparisons between the top games in each category. But even then, each individual list would be heavily weighted toward our personal preferences for specific game styles.
Oh well, it's still a fun exercise and interesting to see the patterns of personal preference that each person demonstrates in his or her individual list. Some are pretty wide open and others tend to be skewed in a particular direction. These trends also seem to correlate with some of the comments made in the previous thread about Cranky's All-Time Top 50 list.
So in the end, all we are really doing is telling each other what kind of AGs we prefer and of the ones we have played in that sub-category, which were our favorites.
To that end, I will begin my All-Time Personal Favorite PC Adventure Game List with my #1 favorite adventure game...
Grim Fandango.
From there it gets much harder with all sorts of ties along the way and a number of games that many people here don't even think belong in the genre. So just pretend you read a diverse list of wonderful games old and new that ended with what I am positive is my very first choice. At least for me, it stands alone atop the heap.
Cheers, Terry

Well then get busy Parrot. You have a LOT of catching up to do... just in the classic PC adventure game category.
You're lucky too because many of us have almost exhausted the archives in several genres at this point and we're "forced" to replay oldies while awaiting the next batch of good games to come out.
Cheers, Terry

Status : Offline | Sir Dave, As I said, I had to stretch my list to reach 50 games played. However, I've always loved the Peanuts gang and found the game easy but fun. As soon as I play a few more adult adventures, the kids games will slide off the bottom.
I don't have any children, but my sister who lives with me is mentally retarded and loves the children's adventures because they're the only kind she can handle by herself. I sometimes play them first so I can help her out with clues if she needs them, but she has gotten so good that she solved Muppet Treasure Island and Finding Nemo on her own.
