| Deleted User | I'm giving it an 8. Myst is always going to be controversial because of the new style of gameplay that it introduced to the genre as a dominant force, but I feel that this is a relatively fair evaluation. It didn't have the sheer design brilliance and pervasive backstory that Riven brought to the series, but it was an original and interesting game with an interesting collection of puzzles, some integrated into the environment better than others. In the end, Myst was a good game if you liked what it had to offer- not the most brilliant work of all time, not the scourge of humanity, but simply a game that tried something different and did it well.

But if I ask myself "Would I rank it a 10 if some other game had been the one that got me back into adventures, and I played Myst for the first time today?" honestly, I have to say no.
Wish I could give it an 8.5, but I guess I'll have to make it an 8.

I have good memories of Myst (as it came free with our computer), but i would crtainly not go back to play it today.

I happen to like adventure games of all kinds and have no doubt that Myst deserves a perfect 10 as the single most important title and as the original offering in the biggest ongoing franchise ever created for the genre. In fact, it was one of the most significant games ever made in any genre and did as much as any other to introduce millions more players (not to mention new talent, new investors and a whole new status) to our once little known hobby.
Myst might even merit a 10 plus a special gold star reserved for only a rare few landmark games that truly impacted the entire industry. These would include universally recognized titles like Doom, Civilization and Ultima / Ultima Online as the true pioneers in their respective genres that also created entire new markets for PC games.
Cheers, Terry

| Deleted User | I honestly don't know how I should rate Myst. In 1994, I was bored with Sierra and other 3rd-person fantasy games. I longed for something new, something different. Along came Myst. It swept me off my feet, I loved the breathtaking graphics, the mystery, the new type of puzzles. It deserves a 10+ for that.
But now that I've played so many other kinds of adventures, it hasn't stood the test of time as well as, say, Riven. So I'd better not rate it at all.

So, for being the first of a particular lineage that makes me continue to play these games I have to give it a 9 while at the same time using all the self-control I can muster to keep my mouse hand from clicking on 10!

The future ain't what it used to be!

These games are poetry in motion for me. I'm still looking for that satisfaction in a new game that these ''original'' ones give. I can dream, can't I ??????
Myst IV - Never finished it. Got frustrated with it.&&Myst V - Did not finish it either. Very disappointing.&&ATTWN - BORING!!! Never finished it. Kept falling asleep.&&Paradise - So far .... not so good&&Voyage - Not on my favorite list
