Okay, here's a more controversial one. Please vote according to the quality of the game itself, not its quality in relation to (a) any hype about it, or (b) the previous Myst games. Let it stand on its own!

I gave it a 9--it was seriously incredible in most aspects, and blew me away time and again. But two things hindered my enjoyment: the spider-chair puzzle and Serenia. Actually, I probably should give it a ten, but I'm still holding out for the "perfect" game to come along.
Dyslexics wonder why there isn't a word that means the same thing as "cinnamon."

I've voted 8, but I'm really torn. Some parts of the game I would have given a 9 or 10; others, such as Serenia and Dream, about 4 or 5. My overall rating would probably be roughly 7.5.

I gave it an 8.  In terms of puzzle design I'd give it a 7, in terms of story flow perhaps a 6, but in terms of immersion the amazing game engine gets a 10.

I gave it a 7.
It had some really nice things about it - like all the animations.
But those dexterity puzzles were a real pain in the butt - the chair in Spire, the Camoudiles in Haven, and the bubbles (or whatever it was) in Serenia. And the game made no allowance for not being fast enough.

And that one priestess that sounded like a California girl was a real immersion breaker.

It's tough not to compare it to other Myst games.
But I still think it's worth an 8 by itself.

The infamous spider puzzle was annoying, along with the other timed puzzles.  But the atmosphere and magic was there.  It was nice to be able to talk to a couple other characters, if only briefly.

I miss my Bubba: 1986 - 2006.

I gave it an 7.
I don't feel good about it either.
I feel that this game missed the mark on a few of it's puzzles as others have mentioned.  I gave up on it and have not finished it yet becasue I'm mad at it.  I might finish it. Maybe.I gave up at the point where you have to look stupid and try to carry around those puff things in your hand.  Puzzles like that just don't get it for me.... eve if it's Myst.
Myst IV - Never finished it.  Got frustrated with it.&&Myst V - Did not finish it either.  Very disappointing.&&ATTWN - BORING!!! Never finished it.  Kept falling asleep.&&Paradise - So far .... not so good&&Voyage - Not on my favorite list

I gave it a 6.  It started well and the graphics are wonderful - very high production values as always.  But Uru was more fun than this.

I couldn't make any sense of Spire at all.  Even my computer go sick of it and refused to play through Serenia so I can't actually finish it.  And I started and re-started it several times - it simply didn't grab me.  Maybe if I'd been able to change my clothes?

Bottom line was that it bored me silly.

4! why not 1? cause it's the only adventure that i kept playing because of the gfx! i was in awe from what i was seeing from the second i started to the second i finished! but when it came to puzzles, good old myst did it again! although i kinda liked myst 3, this one's puzzles were just awful (well some of them anyway)... what can i mention? the can-i-give-less-clues spider chair? the ridiculous puzzle with those monkey things? (good puzzle in its conception, horrible in its execution) the walk-like-a-cat bubble (or whatever) puzzle? or the it's-coloring-time first visit in dream? :
but, again, first time ever that an adventure keeps me going cause of the visuals!

You have gotten the attention of the mysterious lady. She turns to face you. Her face is devoid of any flesh. You are frozen with horror as she begins ripping your body into a bloody mess.

I couldn't believe the way they shoehorned that puzzle into a Myst game. It literally made me bust out laughing.

I gave it a 7.  The graphics were amazing, and I love the atmosphere.  Hated the spider chair puzzle (timed puzzlse in a Myst game?  Bah humbug!!  >
)  And the "music video" was annoying... But other than that, I loved the plot, graphics, music, and Myst-esque-ness...

My vote is a very strong 9+ (but not a perfect 10), as you could probably decern from a gushing review I posted in the Member Review section a while back:

I know what you mean. I remember how my mouth dropped open in horror when I first saw the Peter Gabriel 'music video', and as for that puzzle... I came this close to just giving up on the game altogether at that point. In the end I forced my way through it, but it left me with a very, very bad taste in my mouth.

The people who came up with Serenia and Dream should be shot. Stupid cheesy new-age crap like that has no place in a Myst game, or indeed any other decent adventure game. All I can say is that there'd better not be anything of that sort in Myst V, or I may just give up on Cyan altogether.

I should probably first finish it before voting. But I have no time and to be honest not much interest to do it. The Spire level was almost perfect in puzzles, design and atmosphere. I thought, "If this is going on that way I'll have a great time!", but Haven became like a - to be honest, stunningly beautiful - maze with just a few very hard puzzles.
And Serenia really is a bit uniform from what I've seen so far, chewing on my performance like mad...but on the other side has some of the very best locations I have ever seen. The sea is just...amazing.

The bigger the savegames become the slower my machine gets. This is another issue keeping me from even trying to finish it. And it takes up way much space to lie dormant which is why I uninstalled it for now.

So...no vote, just talk.

Yeesha is the white polka dot and you have to turn all the other polka dots white in order to give her spiritual support.
