Players take the role of Ashley on the eve of her 14th birthday, who receives a letter from her father, long presumed dead along with Ashley’s mother for the last ten years while researching human memory for the government. Setting off to find her father on the eerily named Blood Edward Island, Ashley seeks to discover the mystery behind her parents’ disappearance in a storyline that twists and turns throughout.
Relatively early on within the game Ashley comes across a ghost named D, who is looking for answers of his own as he attempts to piece together his shattered memories and escape his isolation on the island. Together, the pair set off to find the truth of their pasts in an intriguing storyline
I came out in the UK on Friday. (Due for Sept US release as "Trace Memory" - hee hee 3 month before the US for a change)
You control the game entirly with the touchscreen. The touchscreen has a top down 3d view where you can use the stylus to move around and activate hotspots. The top screen is pre-rendered myst style views that change as you move around. You can examine these scenes closer and the touchscreen replicates the scene allowing you to double tap on hotspots to examine or pick up items.
The bottom screen is also used to pick conversation topics or more interestingly to solve the various puzzles you come across.
There is a nice variety of puzzles that fully utilise the DS's unique abilities. These include standard inventory puzzles; one slider puzzle ; fit objects together by dragging them with the stylus; Use the stylus to twirl, throw, manipulate or rub items; Use the built in microphone to blow into to solve puzzles; even use the DS itself on one puzzle.
The graphics were really nice and there is alot of interactivity. Most things you click on get some kind of response. You need to search really hard at times to find all the optional items.
Overall a nice game that you can play on the bus, at work while the boss isn't looking or standing outside the shop waiting for the wife/girlfriend to select some clothes.
Bad points:
*It Waaaaaaaaaaaay to short/easy it took me 6hours to complete the game, but I missed some items so maybe it will have some replay value.
*Some items you can't pickup until you find a need for it then you come back. Realistic but might annoy some people.
* Some minor translation issues, but nothing major.
If you own a DS it is a nice little game, but bear in mind its not that long.

The portable market has a few adventure related games coming our way so look forward to.
DS:
Lost in Blue (looks like a portable version of Return to Mysterious Island and ICO) Phoenix Wright (Legal drama like law and order) Trauma Centre (Use your stylus to operate ER style) Tantei Kibukawa Ryosuke Jiken Dan (The Incident Files of Detective Ryosuke Kibukawa): The Masquerade Lullaby (What a mouthful :)
Even the PSP is getting in on the act with:
Adventure Player (Adventure Player lets players create their own adventure games on their PC, and import them to be played on the PSP.)
Out of the two DS has definite adventuring possibilities with the touchpad perfect for inventory manipulation or SCUMM type interfaces. Maybe a conversion of Broken Sword or any of the Lucasarts games. Maybe even some Myst clones or Myst itself.

Status : Online | Awww. I picked up a copy yesterday, and was hoping to get the first post on it
Nevertheless, I'm very impressed with it. It's an absoloutely facinating piece of hand-held gaming, which goes far beyond just showing off what the system can do. It's set-up is perfect for occasional gaming when on the train (what I call 'travel gaming'), and some of the puzzle solutions are just downright inventive (the stamp-pressing one being the best example that springs to mind). I've read that a few will incorporate the microphone into them as well, but I've not come across them yet.
It's got a lovely storyline which unfolds at a good, steady pace, and works very well to draw the player into the atmosphere and environment.
The only immediate worry I have is if I'm going to finish it too soon or not.
Best of all, the touch-screen allows for a much more authentic 'point and click' interface. Do you remember the GBA port for Broken Sword, which unfortunatly suffered from blurry graphics and clunky controls? There's not a slightest hint of that here.
While it's not as deep as your typical PC adventure game, it's a great handheld game and definitely worth checking out if you get the chance.
