i know ppl who are having the exact same problem... old dos advs (well, games generally) just froze on the 1st screen when loaded under WinXP... so after decades of trying to find out what was wrong i found out, by pure luck, it was Motherboard Monitor 5.05 to blame! just once smth happened and MBM failed to load on startup and that once i tried a dos game again (coincidental)... and it WORKED!!! so after some experimenting i realised that when MBM was loaded dos games were no more... even if i closed MBM nothing happened... MBM should not be loaded at all in order for dos games to run... now i don't know if the whole prg is to blame or just an option but i already removed it and installed MBM 5.2.0.0 which works PERFECTLY

i am sure the days of immense frustration will now end for a lot of ppl (they did for me
)!

MBM = Motherboard Monitor... a prg to check your temps, voltages, fan speeds etc... if you don't know what it is, you probably don't have it since you have to install it yourself (unless someone else installs prgs on your pc - in that case, ctrl-alt-del and check for an MBM.exe process)... do you have those freeze-problems without running mbm?

you shouldn't just close it... it must not load at all when the pc boots... try unistalling it completely and if your dos games run (i guess they will) dload v5.2.0.0 and install that instead
