| Deleted User | Oh, come on! It's not supposed to be taken seriously. It's best to view it casually with family and/or friends. That way you can all discuss and laugh at the contributions together.
It's so hilarious that everyone gives friendship points to their neighbor countries, regardless of the song. People are annoyed that their own country behaves like that, but get even more annoyed when their neighbors don't give them points.
I'm not a devoted Eurovision fan. Only a casual viewer. Some years I miss it, and I rarely watch the entire thing, as it drags on a bit too long nowadays. I like the way it brings all of Europe together though. In a country like mine, we hardly think about being a part of the European community most of the time, because we are a bit remote. Eurovision is like a chance to see what everyone else is up to. It's fun to watch when the TV production is good and there are interesting, well-produced presentation videos for each country.

Sooo.... who do you think's going to win?
(I would like to point out at this point that I am not completely obsessed by Eurovision. I won't be able to watch it because I don't have a TV, so I went about looking for the songs online. I started posting my opinions of the songs as I was listening to them, and once I'd done a few I thought I should finish them all. I really started to regret this towards the end. )

There's a Belgian 80's band called Telex that I quite like. They were among the electronic pop music pioneers, along with Kraftwerk, Y.M.O. and others and has inspired many later pop musicians. They take an openly humoristic approach to their music. It's deliberately cheesy, celebrating the idea that pop music is disposable. It used to be very popular on European disco dancefloors.
This band actually entered the Eurovision Song Contest in 1980 and remarkably made it to the finals as Belgium's entry. The song, named "Eurovision" was a joke on the contest itself, with cheerful, banal lyrics about the event they were themselves participating in. All synthesizers.
The audience had no idea of what to think. When the song ended it was completely quiet. At that time, one of the bandmembers stepped forward and took a photograph of the stunned audience. Scattered applause followed.
At the vote-count it quickly positioned itself among the zero-point entries. When the Greek jury surprisingly awarded them three points, the announcer thought she misheard and tried to give the points to The Netherlands. Unfortunately Turkey beat them in the end by taking last place. Still, the irony of it all was perfect for the band's image and it's been joked about on several later Telex albums. On the other hand, it could have become an international breakthrough for them if they had appealed to the masses.

Ok - Chris, you are being very "generalizing" and, well to put it plainly, WRONG.
Hebrew is not an ugly langauge, and as much as I rather English (I like it better), some of my favourite songs are written and sung in Hebrew. There's also another possibility (besides the one that this the first and only song you heard in Hebrew) - That because you don't know the language itself, it just doesn't speak to your ears the same as it would to a native of the language.
In this case, however, you're right. I'm not too crazy about the singer and her style, nor of the song itself. Ever since we won back with Dana International we went down hill. Besides, I don't really like the Euorovision anyway.

By the way, do you consider Israel to be part of Europe?

German r's are done with the soft palate and are similar to snoring.
