The Netherlands' Glennis Grace with "My Impossible Dream". Good song, great voice, traditional.

Here in Sweden they have expanded the national competitions the last few years. Instead of one night with 10 acts, they run it for several weeks. Some acts get a second chance if they don't progress to the finals immediately and the people get the biggest vote. It's hugely popular. Personally I prefer to watch only the finale, if even that. Not my kind of music really. Eurovision is much more interesting. It seems to grow every year, with bigger and better shows. And it's exciting when your country has a chance to win. Sweden is always among the favorites it seems, but has only won four times. Still, that's pretty much. It's also been the breakthrough for many famous artists, so you might remember seeing them there first.

http://www.rte.ie/tv/star/this_week.html (4th one down the list)
The tune and the bad harmony instantly made me think of our embarrassing 2003 entry, Jemini. [smiley=eww.gif]
And they riverdance.
Even the bad songs from tiny, obscure Eastern European countries are better than this. Ireland have fallen a long way. They need to pass a semi-final before they can take part in the main contest, and they won't manage it.

That's true, Ruslana was sensational last year and I expect most people couldn't find Ukraine on a map.

This is good and very Eurovision-style but a bit repetitive.

It's amazing that if you go back even five years, these countries were entering folk songs in their own language.

Yes, but it's not internationally famous for anything (except the recent political problems) and only 15 years ago it didn't exist... just another part of the USSR.
Besides, size isn't everything. Even fewer people would know where Kazakhstan is, and that's about the same size as Europe!

Anyway, next we have Angelica Agurbash from Belarus, with "Love me Tonight".
http://www.tvr.by/eng/eurovision2005.asp
This had good potential, but her accent is very thick and affects the song badly. It's only Belarus's second attempt ever, though.
I love the name "The National State Teleradio Company of the Republic of Belarus" by the way; it could have come straight out of Stalin's mouth.
Oh, and old Angelica looks like a drag queen.

My word, Hebrew is an ugly language! The song starts about 3 1/2 minutes into the video. Make sure not to miss last year's winner Ruslana speaking English, she sounds like Bela Lugosi's Dracula!
I don't think this will get past the semi-finals. Is Israel even in Europe, anyway?

The next song is Bosnia and Herzegovina's Feminnem with Call Me.
http://www.feminnem.com/
Now these are some ladies who can really sing! If this was thirty years ago they would have won without a doubt. Unfortunately, Eurovision has moved beyond the cheesy songs that it was once famous for. This will end up at around third place though.

Like Russia, I love this one.
Like Russia, it doesn't have a chance of winning.
EDIT: Now I've seen the whole thing, I like this one best of all.

Representing Spain: Son de Sol with Brujeria.
Were these the women that sang that horrible Ketchup song? In any case, it sounds just like that. Nul points.
Representing Ukraine: Greenjolly with Razom nas bahato
This was the anthem to Ukraine's "Orange Revolution", which might win it some extra points (except from Russia), but it's not very good at all. Sort of Slavic hip-hop.
Representing Turkey: Guelseren sings Rimi rimi lei
I hear this same song nearly every year from Turkey. They're not going to get anywhere with ethnic music.

I love the verses - old fashioned but very good, but the chorus is typical Eurovision. But Sweden always do well and Martin is a very charismatic performer.
Serbia: No Name sing Zauvijek Moja
The instrumentals on this are absolutely beautiful and send a shiver down the spine, but the song itself is standard boy band rubbish. It was a mistake to sing in Serbo-Croatian.
Malta: Chiara sings Angel
It's good to see a bigger pop singer once in a while! A very nice voice, but it's quite a sad song--I'm don't think that will go down very well.
