ahhhmmm..... *Caroline clears throat*

We were all respectable middle aged parents - there was no carousing.  Lots of introductions, and getting to know each other.  Lots of nice food, only one father who succumed to the effects of too many beers before eating and he was hilariously noisy and friendly and tactile - the table clown.

I don't drink and drive so stuck to water all night.  [smiley=angel_smiley.gif]

Met a nice couple from Edinburgh who've only been here 2 years and simply love the weather.

Met a sheep farming family from the Real Outback who've come to the city for the sake of their childrens' education.  (that happens a lot)

Everyone seemed to have heard of my son and liked him which was nice.  Some of the fathers already knew my Hubby from the soccer team the past two years (he's the coach).  Just a really nice night out.  As a mother it's a real treat just to have someone else cook your food.

What, is drinking an unrespectable thing, only fit for young people?

Of course, I am saying that, but I don't drink and drive either. More specifically, I don't drink at all, and I don't drive either... mostly because nobody else would be in the roads if I did drive. Daydreaming, getting out of touch for a few seconds and driving probably don't mix all too well.

*Grumbles* How can anyone actually like the weather in Australia? */Grumbles* I have been known to complain about Britain being too hot and not rainy enough, so I guess that says something about my own favourite kind of weather.  :

Maybe we are after all. But don't speak so loudly, or Anne will start suspecting something. She is watching us, lurking in the corner... don't you see her?

Of course, there is still one difference between us: my anatomy is a bit... sketchy, so to speak. I have been known to mix up most of my body parts, and saw nothing wrong with having an heart at the same level as the stomach... among other related mistakes.

I should be going to bed now; I hope so. Exams tomorrow (Spanish, a subject I master about as much as sewing), so I have to meet Lady Luck, the Nornas, the Fates, the Moirae...

Add to that the general elections (she wrote something to the effect of "staying up the whole night), and you would have a very busy Anne indeed.

How any frenchman can claim that Spanish is difficult is beyond me.   ???  After doing French for a couple of years I found Spanish a real doddle.

Only idiots drink and drive.

Australia's weather.
We're the size of North America so our weather can be very different across the continent.
arwin is tropical, cyclones, rainy seasons, that sort of thing.  Melbourne is very English, damp mixed up, all 4 seasons in one day sort of thing.  Perth is hot and dry.  Sydney is hot and muggy with really weird hailstones and stuff.  Adelaide is mediterranean, mostly dry, warm to very hot, mild and damp in winter.  Perfect.

Alneyan - sounds like you'd enjoy Ireland.

[smiley=smiley_up.gif] also known as designated drivers.

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, wine in the other screaming, "WOO HOO what a ride!!!

Well... What sort of proof are you looking for? Chris and I could go to Denmark and drop by your place, but I cannot think of any other proof, unless someone happens to make a psychological study just by reading someone's writings.

Caroline: I didn't find that French helped that much when studying Spanish. It does help to get the basics, and some vocabulary items, but beyond that French becomes much less useful. French helped me more while studying English actually, and the other way around: English is nice to check the correct French spelling for forest (foręt, putting those ^ on the correct vowel is so annoying).

I must also admit I am not exactly interested in Spanish, perhaps because it is similar to English and French. I enjoyed studying ancient Greek far more than Spanish, among other languages. Saying that my Spanish is poor was also a way of getting rid of such ideas: I instead went to the exam feeling like a conqueror, ready to smite some Spaniards and... As someone else said before me: "I know I have but the body of a weak and feeble woman; but I have the heart of a king, and of a king of England, too" and so on.

And speaking of which, you were wrong Chris: the adjective you have given me was "Victorian", while "Elizabethan" might have been more appropriate.  :

I have considered going to Ireland, and a bit more than that; as it happens, I can try my luck at getting a job there for a year or two, in the course of my college course. And I will close this post on that atrocious pun.

Put your mind at ease Alneyan.  It wasn't a pun.   A pun is a funny play on words.

I have five months of holidays starting this Tuesday, so getting some time to travel abroad shouldn't be *too* difficult.

Alternatively, we could just ask Caroline to check whether Chris has a French accent. If he doesn't, you have your answer. If he does, I fully expect him to plaid guilty, so that my name will be cleared.

Chris is a Lancashire Lad so I don't expect him to 'plaid' anything.  Lucien now, I'm jolly sure would be right at home in the plaid....

Eva - be careful what you wish for.....  [smiley=devil_smiley_grintail.gif]

Isn't he a Yorkshire lad? That's what his profile says, at any rate... though he could have moved, thereby misleading us. A wily chap he is.

*Slaps self* Plead! Plead! Plead! Whenever a French and an English word look similar but are not quite the same, I will mix them up. It goes both ways, of course: I was fond of speaking of "conflicts" in French (correct spelling for the word is conflit in French), so "plead" becomes "plaid" is to be expected. Incidentally, it means I do not pay enough attention to my posts... or that I carefully check spelling or grammar for that matter.

Well, my holidays will be spent moving around I think: Australia in winter might be cooler than France in summer, so I should drop by your home and... Kidding aside, I don't think I will do much besides the ordinary during my holidays: maybe a bit of studying, an interactive fiction here and there, an attempt at writing once in a while, nonsensical posts every now and then... You get the picture.

Now if you will excuse me, I have to pack my things.   :

It's not entirely your fault Alneyan.  I've seen this very same trait exhibited time and again on this forum by other males.

You skim read posts and forget the details.   Chris is from Southport (Lancashire) - has posted photos of the place, waxes lyrical about the delightful lawnmower museum they have there and his lifelong membership...

He only lives in Sheffield (Yorkshire) for studying.

In this case, it would not be a matter of forgetting; rather, the name of the town simply did not strike me, as I had no clue about where Southport is. He should have spoken of Newport (:
): that name would have meant something to me.

Of course, he did say that Southport was in the north-west, near Liverpool, but the geography of England has never been my forte. Somehow, I saw both Lancashire and Yorshire as stretching from west to east (like Northumberland... I think), while it isn't exactly the case.

At any rate, I do know that London is located in Cornwall... or was it in Skye?

It's very flattering to be spoken about so much...  I shall be opening my fan club soon

Alneyan, I will try to only live in places that you have heard of from now on.  By the way, Lancashire is in the west and Yorkshire is in the east (Northumbria is above Yorkshire); there is a little mountain range between them to prevent wars from breaking out.

A club eh? I hope the fees will be reasonable... how much are you willing to offer to each member?

I would indeed much appreciate if you would be so kind as to only live in places I have heard of, and preferably in places I have been in. The list of all appropriate locations shall be forwarded as soon as time permits; its length will be quite... Well, let's just say the list will only include a couple of names.

And you spoke of mountains in England. How can that be? The highest summit in England is not even above the 1,000 meters mark (roughly below 3,200 or 3,300 feet), and that barely qualifies as a hill - a lovely one, admittedly, but a hill regardless.  :
Where is that "I am jealous" smiley...
