The most depressing adventure game I've ever played is Blade Runner. Somehow it was even more depressing than the movie and the book (which was quite different anyway). In fact, the game almost made me cry at one point (one of the endings).
Great game
.
The ending in Reah was also quite depressing. It took me a while to get over it.

Any others?

Deleted UserGabriel Knight 2 is my most depressing game but not because it was depressing.  The game was wonderful.  My depressing problem was that I was unable to finish it.  I was almost at the end - at the opera with the Count and Gabriel - and everything locked up.  Time after time.  No matter what I did I couldn't go any further.  I contacted Sierra but their help was no help.  After multiple, multiple efforts I gave up in disgust and threw the game away.

Too bad.  I have alwasy wanted to know exactly how it ended.

If I think of a game that made me weep, it would have to be Sanitarium.  What an incredible psychological unfolding - quite an accomplishment in terms of building characters and telling a very compelling story.

If I catagorize depressing as "why did I spend a single dollar on this game", then it would have to be the Elk Moon Murders - the very worst game I have ever not played to completion!!!

I would have to say The Blackstone Chronicles.  For  it to take place in a mental institution and to have to learn the story of each person while trying to save your son - all very stressful and depressing overall.   :'(

This is a tricky one.. I suppose Faust. Not because it was depressing, at all. If anything, it was facinating and enjoyable. But I did feel that some of the stories, especially the final tale, were very emotional. Always good for a few tears.

Yes, there were some very sad stories in Faust.

I always wanted to play Sanitarium. Not buying it was a big mistake.

This is going to sounds nuts, but the end of Grim Fandango had me in tears in front of my computer for at least 20 minutes.  I was so bummed that it was over also that SPOILER...

That Manny and Glottis parted ways.

On the other hand Morpheus was depressing in a completely different way.  The main character who we don't see until towards the end had such a sad life and the people he came into contact with were in sadder.

Hitchcock was depressing because all of the glitches, the many death sand was also just dark to look at.  I did like the end though.

(I keep trying to edit the name of the above mentioned game but whenever I post it's still wrong.  The game is Hitchcock.  I know I didn't type "Hitchthingy."

I get it now.  Something about the ending of that name the board really DOESN'T like.  Pretty funny.

Hmmm depressing huh, Well I think that Syberia being over was a low moment...

In game moments, The part in Blackstone C about the little boy was not a thrilling plot moment....

Also when I started playing deeper into Chateau D'or , realized what I had charged on my CC and I wept - yep it was a VERY depessing moment for me.

Hi there,

I actually found Blackstone Chronicles pleasantly depressing, and looked forward to playing it each evening to find out which old horrors were inflicted on the patients. This sounds a bit ghoulish, but it was a welcome change after playing a few humour led stories.

Also, I actually found Zork : Nemesis quite miserable, although I really enjoyed that too! The rather destitute atmosphere of the monastery will haunt me forever.

If by depressing you are talking about hating to see a game end, then I have to agree with Laura--Syberia!

Realizing how much I had paid for On Assignment was very depressing.....

Hand down - Harvester.  The yukkiest game ever.  I threw my copy away when I was finished so no one else could experience it.  Too bad it wasn't the only copy.

I thought the "Forgotten" was depressing because it ended so abruptly, but was a good game.

The "Crystal Key" was depressing because I couldnt stand it.
