i have never had such an unhappy encounter with an adventure game. am i alone? i saw the graphics on the back of the box (totally misleading) and i thought i was in for a broken sword clone. i wish.

how did everyone find it?
Its boring, there isn't any action at all. You walk around picking up things and using them with other items. You walk around and use the item on something. Walking around and talking to people is really lame, what about some shooting or something~APuddleduck&&

I agree with you. It was a piece of crap. The graphics were nice but the gameplay and the story were awful. One of the worst adventures ever...

I felt the exact same way about Tex Murphy Overseer.  Read all the praise, heard all the wondrous things about it.  Saw incredible looking graphics on the box.  Installed it (pain in the ass),  started it , and could not believe the absurd, horrible graphics!  I have played many other games from that same time period and they looked much, much better than this.  Maybe the story is good, idon't know as I immediately un-installed it.

I never finished it.  A friend had kept talking about it, so got it, checked the photos and what it said about the game, got it and played for a bit and stuck it in the gamel pile of those which I will play when stuck on a desert island with a bag of chips.

Here's a little background story about Overseer. It is a rather unusual game in that it is designed to showcase several (back then) new technologies, such as DVD and 3D acceleration.

Access received funding from Intel (significant amount I presume) and a strict deadline. Because of the deadline, Access decided (probably wisely) that they didn't have time to develop a new story. Instead, they took the plot of the first Tex Murphy game, Mean Streets and reused that with minor modifications. What I'm trying to say here is that the game is somewhat rushed. On the other hand Access had the funds to hire famous actors like Michael York.

I certainly didn't find Overseer to be bad looking. The FMV parts look very, very good in fact - and I seriously doubt there were other games with DVD quality video around at the time. Overseer is certainly not the best game in the Tex Murphy series, but I don't think it's a bad game.

Sorry for going OT

I forgot my sig.

I want to get the chance to play it as well...

Judging by your comments, I still want to try it... Damn.

It okay...the graphics nice, story okay...But the majority of the puzzles blew...especially how you can get trapped...that is the worst...And the baddest thing is that you don't even know you're trapped.  That was the killer for the game...If they had no dead ends, I would've really loved the game...

Oh,
I would be glad to trade my Jack Orlando jewel version but I live in Argentina and it is a long trip!! :-[ But, don t care!! you are not losing a great game. I agree with most of the people of this thread. The game is quite below the average.
Anyone has known any other game where you collect such a huge amount of objects only to find that many of them are completely useless? >

It is definitely below average ...

A short story:

When my parents asked my brother what they could get me for my birthday (I think it was my 17th) my brother thought it would be a great idea to buy Jack Orlando  :
since he knew that I am a huge Adventure Game fan.

I do not know which game it was back then I REALLY would have liked to get,
but try to visualize the disappointment I felt when I finally unwrapped my present

I tried to play my depressive state down and tried my luck.

When the game finally did not run properly on my system in the bargain,  I got a "little" hysterical  >

I even got insulting towards my bro and accused him for such stupid things like
"buying the cheapest avaiable adventure game so that he could keep the rest of the money, my parents gave him for himself"

I feel extremely embarrased for myself when I reconsider how I did behave back then   :-[

It is good to talk ...

What was I supposed to write about ?

Oh yeah ... right ... ähhhhhhh

Jack Orlando THE GAME

It is crap !

Catastrophic dialouge interface,

MUCH too many red herrings
Q:
Which main character who wants to be taken seriously, at least to some extent, would pick up "objects" like broken bottles & cigarette butts to carry them around for the rest of the game/chapter
A:
JACK ORLANDO

BTW I did not like (or care for) him

Pixel Hunting

Too many unpredicatable causes of deaths (+ imprisonments)

Stereotype story/characters

The last chapter was a travesty (even worse than the rest of the game) !

The ending "sequence" accomodated itself to the games quality  :-/

The only acceptable thing about Jack Orlando is the music (Jazz) .

I don't really want to be the one to say " serves you right" but.......
if i'm not mistaken isn't there a perfectly good review page on the Just Adventure site, and don't both reviews give Jack Orlando a C grade?
I must admit, that I have also seen the box and was mildly tempted but i checked out the reviews & boy am i glad i did!!

"and don't both reviews give Jack Orlando a C grade"

a totally underserved grade IMO. "C" IMO means "standard", or nothing new but satisfactory. this game gave me a bad BAD time and if that dude wants to swap it just PM me. but i kinda feel guilty about inflicting this game on a fellow advenuterer

I liked it too. The graphics were some of the best I've seen in an animated game. And yeah it was funny too, especially if you've seen certain detective movies.

But then I played the DOS version that didn't have the notorious dead end that nearly everyone hit in the Windows remake.

When they remade the game for Windows, they got rid of the VESA problem that kept so many people from playing it. But then they also added extra scenes that had been omitted from the DOS version. Maybe it would have been better if they hadn't included the extra scenes, since they didn't do anything to prevent the dead end.
