I've just finished RE Code Veronica, and I just gotta say how much disapointed I am, specially after reading so many reviews and comments saying how great the game was. The BEST RE game, many people said...

NOT FOR ME!
I have so many complains about Code Veronica, here are some examples:

SAVES: compared to other RE games, CV has fewer save rooms and storage boxes, they are are very distant one from another, I always had to go to great distances to save a game. Even worse, there were save rooms without storage boxes and vice versa! Double the work to save and get my items. Not to mention the beggining of the game has fewer save ink ribbons too. Overall this system contributed to an annoying experience

AMMO: I had to start the game more and more times because of getting to a boss without enough ammo. That was never a problem for me with the other 3 RE games I played. Especially the first part of the game, with Claire, has fewer ammo to use.

DIALOGUES: I usually don't complain much about bad dialogues, but CV certainly presented some of the chesiest dialogues and voice acting I've ever heard in any game. Too much to remember right now...

DEAD-ENDS: reaching a boss without enough ammo was bad enought, but even worse was beating the boss with Claire and finding out later I just had to put the weapons back in the storage box because Chris would come later and have no access to what Claire had. This happend to me twice on the game, because I was never sure to when it would change characters and I would be stuck without enough good weapons and ammo...

The only good part of the game was, to me, the improved 3D graphics, no more loading time after each new camera angle.

That's it though, I was kinda disapointed to realize that, even thought it's a game on a new platform, they haven't "fixed" the annoying black loading screens with the doors opening yet. Why not load the entire level at once? It gets so annoying after a time. I've put up with this problem with earlier RE games, I thought this was something they could fix later on, but why do they still feature this in the new, superior PS2 console (or even the original Dreamcast version)? It just doesn't make too much sense to me.

Oh, and the heartbeats I've felt on the joystick got old real fast, especially in the tyrant part, when they are used every time I open a door... I would just put the joystick on the table untill the heartbeats stopped entirely

But I think the most disapointing thing was to realize RE just isn't scary anymore. No real surprises. The monsters all felt the same (and where are the women zombies, by the way? Surely there could be at least 1 woman scientist?), the scary moments are not so surprising anymore. The atmosphere of the game, overall was pretty weak, except for the old mansion at the top of the mountain part.

I thought RE1 was good, RE2 was to me the better one, then RE3 was just average, and now this RE Code Veronica is, to me, the worse of the entire series. I'm starting to loose interest in this series...

I hope they fixed some of these problems on the new RE4...

RE4 is by far and away the greatest RE yet. Just so you know! It redefines the survival horror genre.

Well let's see...

SAVES: compared to other RE games, CV has fewer save rooms and storage boxes, they are are very distant one from another, I always had to go to great distances to save a game. In Resident Evil 4, there are plenty of save points, no item boxes (just merchants), and no ink ribbons.

AMMO: I had to start the game more and more times because of getting to a boss without enough ammo. That was never a problem for me with the other 3 RE games I played. Especially the first part of the game, with Claire, has fewer ammo to use.

Ammo flows like milk and honey in RE4. You can blast away to your hearts content, and still have enough left over to start a new game with. There's even ways to cheat and get more ammo if you need to (upgrading your gun when it's empty, buying a new gun).

DIALOGUES: I usually don't complain much about bad dialogues, but CV certainly presented some of the chesiest dialogues and voice acting I've ever heard in any game. Too much to remember right now...

Eh, not much improvement here.

You only have one weapon-wielding character here, so no worries about that.

The only good part of the game was, to me, the improved 3D graphics, no more loading time after each new camera angle.

And in RE4, the graphics are even better, and so is the camera!

That's it though, I was kinda disapointed to realize that, even thought it's a game on a new platform, they haven't "fixed" the annoying black loading screens with the doors opening yet.

There are still load time when entering a new area, but they are generally brief.

Oh, and the heartbeats I've felt on the joystick got old real fast, especially in the tyrant part, when they are used every time I open a door... I would just put the joystick on the table untill the heartbeats stopped entirely

I use a Wavebird for my GameCube, so I wouldn't know anything about that.

The first part of RE4 has a kind of H.P. Lovecraft's "Shadow of Innsmouth" vibe to it, but it doesn't take long for it to settle into a straight action fest. It has a few scares now and then, but this game is more action than horror. But there are plenty of female "zombies" (I guess they're not technically zombies, but pretty much) for you to blast away at. There's even a shooting gallery that for some sick reason gives you more points for shooting the female zombies than it does the males.

I'm starting to lose interest in this series...

So was I...then I played RE4.
I tried to go back and play Resident Evil 0 now, but it's hard too after playing RE4. It's just so good, it almost makes me wonder how I ever played the old ones.

re4 was indeed a great game... but i hope that's not how the survival horror genre will be redefined! re4 was totally action oriented and not scary at all... i barely consider it a survival horror game..... (again, so that i won't get misunderstood, it was a great game regardless)

on topic: i still think code veronica is the best re game!

You have gotten the attention of the mysterious lady. She turns to face you. Her face is devoid of any flesh. You are frozen with horror as she begins ripping your body into a bloody mess.

Though I loved "Code Veronica" I always favored "Nemesis" loved the fact that you could make your own ammo,
just got a kick out of that for some reason, and for some reason I just CANT get bored with the series, have played them all more than once, and absolutely LOVED RE4, its a must play for RE fans in my book, but as Aya has said, its more action than adventure, I LOVED it anyway, I thought it was a nice change of pace, didnt think I would enjoy all the action, but I couldnt stop playing. GREAT Game, dont thinkyou'll be dissapointed at all.

Thanks for the list of differences between RECV and RE4 Joe! It sure makes me wanna play RE4 even more now!

So, it's more of an action game than a horror game? I see... hope the atmosphere is better than in CV though.

@Helen: I also enjoyed the RE3 feature that allowed you to create your own ammo. I'd love to do that again! I didn't mention it because RECV was released before Nemesis, IIRC.

One more thing: at the end of RE2, Claire still hadn't find her brother Chris. She continues her search in Code Veronica, travelling to another Umbrella Lab center where her brother is supposed to be held prisoner or something like that.

But how come Chris is nowhere to be seen, and that Claire has to send an Email to Leon in order for Chris to find her instead? Leon was WITH her when she said she was going to look for Chris, and suddenly he knows how to contact Chris, with no explanation whatsoever? It felt like a HUGE plothole IMO, one that really made the whole "story" feel stupid... Claire didn't have to travel all the way there at all!

All that trouble for nothing! [smiley=boggled.gif]

Deleted UserRE4, for me too, really blows the others out of the water. Personally, I'm finding it a bit scarier than the others, only because I find "body-horror" really disturbing. It's completely Cronenberg, less out-and-out shocking, more a little disturbing. The zombies stalking you with these bizarre things that stick out of their necks are truly sick.

One mid-level boss is straight out of the Thing! But then, if you find the slow-burn more of a scary thing than out-and-out visual excess, perhaps you won't find it as disturbing as I.

Some things still need ironing out. Not being able to change weapons real-time if you need to being one. They really seem like they're pushing the boat out on this one more than ever, and it's a total success. I love it.

BTW Roger C isn't telling you he sold his Gamecube recently. AND BEFORE ZELDA AND KILLER 7 ARE RELEASED! Shame on you!

Resident Evil 4 is probably even better if you play it with this.

About the plothole, anyone cares to explain to me if I missed some detail in between RE2 and Code Veronica?

I suspect there's nothing to explain...it's a plothole no doubt.

It's been a while since I've played RE:CV, but I think Claire finds information about Chris's wereabouts on Umbrella's computers, and then sends it back to Leon, who gets in touch with him.

Really? It seems to me that such an important information should have been given more time to develop.

It was just so brief I didn't even noticed it..

RE4 is good no dout...but it just has nothing to do with RE series besides the names.

I really liked CV because it was hard. RE1,2n3 you could basicly run thru. Still nothing beats the original RE with the high class actors. The Intro and Outro would put any OSCAR actor to shame
