The problem with those episode formats is that they are HEAVILY dependent on how well the first ones do.  To date, name one episodic game that went it's full length to completion. I can't think of any.  Even those that showed promise start to slow down down.
elaware St. John came out in Episode 1 came out in June 2005. Episode 2 in Dec 2005. Here it is Dec 2006 and the third one hasn't come out yet and keeps getting pushed back.  That series also went from I believe 10 planned episodes to 7.

Next up is Agon. Episode 1 - Set 2003, Episode 2 - Nov 2003, Episode 3 - Sept 2004, Episode 4 - ?  ...and this was a series of 14 planned episodes. So what do you have now? Episodes 1-3 being boxed and sold in one package for $20.  Even the Delaware St. John games (episodes 1-2) are being boxed together and sold for $20.

If you were a customer,  would you risk buying a game that might never be completed? Wouldn't it be in your best interest to wait it out? If they do manage to finish the series, then you can enjoy the benefit of getting the entire series in one box at a much cheaper price than if you had purchased them all seperately.

I know you believe in your heart that you will do this. Just as the guys who did DSJ and Agon thought. But if you put out that first game and it tanks, what motivation do you have to continuing it? You need the money to continue the series, but the majority of people won't buy it until the series is done. See the problem?

I'm careful not to create too high goals or promises that I can't keep in the end (like those you mentioned). Of course, it will be out of my control how fast or slow the progress will be as everything affects the game development (like art, music, voice actors and so on). But when the first episode is out, and if it goes well, there will be more of it. Money is also an important factor, as people are willing to do more when there are money coming in on their bank acoounts. There has been several episodes planned already.

If the first episode won't do well, and won't continue to do well, we'll scrap the next episodes and continue on a new project. It's easier that way, as we risk less money going episodic than making a full game and risk a lot more money, that we even can't afford paying back. It's sad, but sometimes independent companies are forced to do so. If the series don't succeed, you have only paid for one or two episodes and haven't prepaid the price for a full game (One season, which of course would be worse). But I have a good feeling about this project and the game's fan base is being really supportive, so I can't sit work on something I know will fail, when I know I'd love it. Those who has seen the materials from the game, also loves it, so we can only hope you love it too

No one developing a full game can't make any promise either if the game will be short or long, even if the game will be a full, complete game.

If again, the game won't succeed, there will be planned something for those who has paid for one or more episodes. I know you won't be disappointed.

The episodic format works, it's just finding the right way to do it right.
