I read the 15 pages of stuff about Other Worlds over on the Discussion page, and attempted to download the game.  The game appeared to download fine, but installation is a separate process, and before I did this, a message window appeared, advising me to shut down other programmes my machine was running.  So I turned off the installation window and disabled my anti-virus.  But then I find that there is no trace of my recent download.  There is no ikon on my desktop, and no reference to "Other Worlds" or "Alkis" or anything relating to the game in the menu that comes up when you hit the START button.  Using the Search function that becomes available on the START menu yields nothing.

Clearly, the download is buried somewhere in the bowels of my computer.  How do I find it?

This is not the first time this has happened.  I wish all downloads just automatically provided a desktop ikon, as this is a real disincentive for me to play downloadable games and demos

Go back to the website that you downloaded the file from.  Then, click on the file again and click to save it to your computer.  This time when the box pops up with the name of the file you are downloading, write the name down and then you can cancel the download.  Finally, do a search for that EXACT name on your computer and you should be able to find out where it is saved.

This, of course, assumes that you originally did save it to your harddrive in the first place and that you did not just RUN the installation file from the website.  If you did that you'll have to start all over and download the file again.

Hope this helps.

The name of the file being downloaded was Setup.exe. Pretty bad design I agree, since many other application files have the same name. Surely even a name change to OWSetup.exe would have been sufficiently identifiable.

You can use the Search function on the Start menu, just click on Search by date and a list of files created/modified on the date you specified will be shown. See if you can find setup.exe on that list. Or just type in search.exe in the search field and see if it is the one you downloaded (size about 25Mb)

since you got those messages to close other progs etc, i think what you did was open setup.exe directly, instead of dloading it (then you closed it while closing all programs!)... so you need to dload it again... but you can select where to dload it to... so when you click on the file, select save and then give the path you want it to be saved to

I usually save dls directly to the desktop rather than burying them in a folder somewhere.
