I'd better spend my money on other games then, or save up for that new computer.
You should play Runaway. Also not a great game in my opinion but better than many. Light hearted.
That's what I've heard from most people. I'm sure if I go in with no sky high expectations, I'll like it just fine.
I understand about money and the cost of games and computers. You are making a wise choice by sticking with some of the older and quality games. You have plenty of reviews to read on them to see if they fit your interests plus, they are cheaper as time passes.
They certainly are! Since I've discovered ebay, I've picked up a lot of older games at wonderfully low prices. Some of the rarer ones still go for outrageous prices though. I hope they keep up rereleasing some of those as has already happened with Sanitarium and Bad Mojo.

Space Quest 6 (just started) Callahans Crosstime Saloon (stuck) Larry 8 (don't know if it counts as an adventure game, but I'm playing it) Laura Bow 2 (just started) Gabriel Knight (just started, but already stuck) Willy Beamish (stuck) Lure Of The Temptress (stuck)
I seem to just start on a new game, whenever I get stuck.

Status : Offline | I've just finished two totally different games. The first was Black Mirror - now there's a game I really loved, sure it had some faults but then so does everything! After completing that I played Journey to the Centre of the Earth - boy, what a let down that was. Here's a game that had the potential to be another Syberia but totally missed out, I don't know when I've had so much trouble getting a character to move around where I wanted it to go and the frustration got to the point that I just kept consulting a walkthrough in places where I certainly wouldn't have normally in case I'd gone off in the wrong direction - she even turns around in circles looking for the little footprints to follow and sometimes they're even right off the screen! At other times the footprints show on the right-hand bottom of the screen, but she actually goes left! Surely a game should be checked before releasing it for such basic glitches? Well, one thing it's taught me is to read several different reviews before buying a game.
I've come to the conclusion that the amount of enjoyment you get from a game can have a lot to do with the order that you play games in, in my case I'd played Syberia2, Black Mirror then JTTCE - what I should have done was start with JTTCE, then maybe it wouldn't have seemed so disappointing. Well, I'm going to install Conspiracies next, this time I'd read the review in both JA and Quandary before buying it, however there's a link here saying that quite a few people were disappointed in that one!! Well, guess I'll just have to make up my own mind but I've always preferred FMV games - so fingers crossed!

There'e a also a nasty and annoying little arcade sequence near the end. Apart from that, it certainly was a fun diversion.
about to start Runaway

Well, I'd say the humor in most games tends to be of the same type. Monkey Island humor is always typical Monkey Island humor, isn't it. Sam and Max gets repetetive too after a while. You either like tit or you don't. But I know what you mean, I recently replayed Zork GI and Duckman. ZGI stands the test of time easily, but that grumpy old Duck had lost a lot of his appeal.
And there's the "wrench-car-daddy" scene in UFOs, which was over the top.

I discovered a trick to the tongue fight. Sort of. Waiting till the other tongue has attacked, something like that. Worked for me. Unless you meant the dance-little-monkey arcade, which I thought was great fun.

Yeah, I didn't formulate that one very clearly, now did I? I meant it much narrower, that a limited number of jokes and gags is repeated in UFOs till it loses most of its fun-factor. When I was playing the first part of the game (on the farm) I regularly was laughing out loud with some of the hilarious gags, but that faded to being just amused near the end of the game. there just wasn't enough variation within the type of humor the game used. Still, it's a pleasent little game, I'm just glad I only paid a few euros for it and didn't pay full price for it when it was first released. It wouldn't have been worth that in my opinion.

Yeah, it was the tongue fight game. I just hate this type of game, these beat'm up games like Tekken and others. I'm sure there's a certain technique to playing those games succesfully, to me they just feel like punching as hard as fast on your keyboard to get your character on screen to kick at the other one, always a few seconds too late. : Aargh, same with this little arcade game. Just seemed like luck was all that mattered. Oh well, I got through it on my fourth attempt. I think a fifth attempt would have meant the end of my keyboard.
the dance-like-a-monkey game was more fun. But thank God dollar bills were added to the mix after a while, with only the coins it would've taken way to long! Or maybe I just really don't like these arcade sequences.

I recently enjoyed Sherlock Holmes Silver Earring and yesterday I started playing an oldie, The X Files. So far I am really pleased. Not surprising since I love playing FMV games and they are RARE these days.
Cheers

I had trouble making Peter go where I wanted him too and could almost never get the camera view that I wanted. It needed more close up views. I don't think it's feels normal to open a drawers from across the room and things like that. They also had you just apear in another room that you didn't even know was there insted of showing how you got there. I think there old Mystery of the Druids had a lot better game engine than this one even though it was lower rez. I am playing Return to Mysterious Island now. I havn't gotten too far in it yet but so far it looks great. It is a very beutiful game but some of the inventory puzzles have been a little hard so far.

Are you sure this comment was meant to be posted here regarding Sam & Max or was it really intended for that other thread regarding Zoe in Dreamfall.

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, wine in the other screaming, "WOO HOO what a ride!!!

Heh, I read this and read it again and thought to myself, what on earth is he talking about... got it the third time though. The explanation is very simple, my subconscious hates me. I make it work too hard on Aya's tourney and it dugs its heels in and it goes: "Yeah, you know this game, you've played it. Nope, I'm not gonna tell you its name." And then it plays a nasty trick like this on me!

Great humor, dead-on voice acting, and zany puzzles with their own special logic, but decent nudges to keep you going. It's a little early to say "Best point and clicker I've ever played!" but it's got the potential to get there.

Hm, might give one of the LucasArts adventure games that I didn't finish before another try. Yes, Day of the Tentacle looks like a good start.
