Harriet
I didnt play the first 2, but the buzz is that whatever was wrong with 2 has been well and truely addressed in 3. In fact Silent Hunter 3 is getting rave reviews from the SIM community. I needed to try something different as my PC gaming was getting boring in the extreme, which is why I picked it up... My torpedoes were bouncing off the hulls of merchant ships to my complete surprise until I realised they only arm after a certain amount of time after firing
Its good fun, but I think it needs a reasonable machine to run it...

Avaka and Andromus, I agree with you about the older games that you mention. I don't know if I am jaded or spoiled, but nothing has impressed me (much) in the past year. I wasn't even thrilled with Syberia 2, though I loved Syberia 1. Most of the releases have been run of the mill at best.
I am, however, interested in:
Still Life (unless it is too much like Post Mortem which I found sort of blah) Loath Nolder (if they finish it) Longest Journey 2 Martin Mystere The Agatha Christie game - And Then There Were None Nibiru (I hope that it is not too big into scfi and space ships) Delaware St. John Midnight Manor A Vampyre Story
I try not to get my hopes up too high these days regarding new adventures, but And Then There Were None, Delaware St. John, and A Vampyre Story have me intrigued the most of upcoming games. And Then There Were None because, well, it's Agatha Christie!
Delaware St. John because it looks about as close to a Gabriel Knight game we're going to get anywhere.
And A Vampyre Story because because it looks like a throwback to Curse of Monkey Island and classic animated adventures in general.
-Susan, I am embarrassed to admit that I have never played a KQ game. That is almost unAmerican. The fairy tale storyline never thrilled me. I am more fond of mysteries.
It's a bit of a relief to see another adventurer other than me who wasn't awed by King's Quest ( Although I have played the first two, didn't care for them at all). I thought I was the only one!

It runs quite well, partly because of the strange decision to keep the res down to 1024X768. I played it briefly, realised it wasn't quite what I hoped, and sold it on and made my money back. It's complex, but not as atmospheric nor as interesting as I thought it'd be - the old subsims I played on my C64 had more tension.
I have a confession - I haven't played an adventure in ages! It's been a long while now. I just want to pick up and play things, rather than sit down and go through something bit by bit scratching my head... even my WoW account has been a little neglected and I cancelled until I feel up to it again.
RE4 has all my gametime, and I'm getting another controller to play Soul Calibur 2 and SSX3 with my girlfriend. Possibly also Pikmin 2 someday as she's currently loving the little creatures! No doubt Wind Waker will capture her too.
Speak soon guys!

hehe, sounds like "Silent Service" and whilst I didnt play that much on the C64, a mate of mine couldn't be dragged away from it
I changed the res in the config file to 1280x1024, can't really tell if it did anything or not. Most things run well on my machine so I am never sure if they will need something decent or not half the time; just assumed the directx9c shaders used for the water may up the ante.

Yes, Runaway rocks I didn't like it at first, but the game just grows on you. Definitely loved the (ultra long!) ending Not to mention the catcy theme song. It's just awesome.
Same goes for me. Syberia 2 was... really.. not as amazing as Syberia 1. Too much action, if you ask me. But, eh, it WAS somewhat commercial, so what can you do?
I am also waiting for the, um, three games I left quoted Actually, I LOVED Post Mortem. It's one of my favorite adventure games ever. Too bad people didn't like it as much as I did..
Whee TLJ! Too bad I can't find TLJ1 anywhere..
Vamyre Story, oh yeah. I'll dance around happily when I get it =D
I have a pile of games I've never played :| I can only remember The Mysterious Jounrey: Chameleon right now.. I know it doesn't work on my computer for some reason, but it works on my brother's.. all I have to do is persuade him to let me install it there and give me some time to play it, darnit Which he won't do -_-;;
Anyways, right now I'm focusing on Morrowind, and going to finally install DarkFall 2. Yippie.

11.99 new 8.97 used
I have used the Amazon used sites for books, several films and at least one game. I had no problems and the prices are superb.

I still got Still Life demo in my laptop and also 5 magic amulet. I was too excited with the other 2 games.

Right now I am playing Lights Out for a second time. I was reading a walkthrough one day and I saw I had missed a lot of the game because of jumping to different time zones before I had seen everything in the first one. Usually Playing games without a walkthrough lets you see more of a game but this one seems different to me.
My wife likes RPG's a little better than I do so I am also plying a little Dungeon Siege LOA with her on our network.

I'm also unable to see ending of Simon the Sorcer 3D because the game locks up before its final timed sequence begins.
I've got John Saul's Black Stone Chronicles waiting for me to install it. I've also got a dozen new games waiting for me to replace my old computer with one that can actually run them.

The original Sierra releases. I suppose I should try the remakes someday, since I've heard mostly good things about them.

If I had just played the first two original KQ games, I probably wouldn't like the series, either. They got better w/ each game that came out, not including Mask of Eternity, because that's a spinoff instead of a continuation of the series.

I just love it, wonderful atmosphere from beginning to end, guess my only quibble would have been Samuel's voice, I thought the other's were O.K. though and I did get used to his stilted delivery and strange pronunciation of some words after awhile - oh and also the way here appeared to walk as though he'd wet his pants at times! Anyone know if this company are going to make or are making any other adventure games?
Well, now I've started Journey to the Centre of the Earth - pretty game, but I can't honestly say it interests me all that much after Black Mirror and as I have Conspiracies ordered which should be here the week after Easter I guess, I think that will be more interesting than Journey - hopefully anyway after reading the reviews.

They're currently at work on a new game called Nibiru, and there's a preview and interview about it in the new Inventory magazine.
You can check out their website right here for some screenshots and story background.
I've been considering The Black Mirror, it looks like something up my alley. I like mysteries in my Adventure games, even though most of them tend to take a supernatural twist. What are the puzzles like, Jo, and could you compare it to another game? Could you give me a difficulty scale rating?

Kuddles the puzzles tend to be on the easy side I'd say and mostly - but not all - inventory puzzles, there are a couple of very easy jigsaw puzzles plus machine puzzles and sliding puzzles, probably something for everyone here. One of the things that I found though is that there's quite a bit of to-ing and fro-ing and some puzzles can't be solved unless you go back later and talk to someone else or just wander around and fill in time, usually that kind of thing annoys me but in this case I found I was enjoying the atmosphere so much that I didn't even mind!
You also have to right click on a number of things and that's something that held me up at times as I'd pick up an item and forget to examine it in my inventory by right clicking on it - also just items around about the place sometimes require right clicking.
You can die in the game but generally speaking, it was fairly obvious, to me anyway, when that was likely to happen - save, save and save in other words.
The only downside that I found in the whole game - and maybe it's just the way I played it - was that I found I had to restore an old saved game when it really shouldn't have been necessary, simply because I didn't complete certain tasks in the correct order! Luckily I'd read just about every review available, so knew in advance that something like that could occur - don't know if this has happened for everyone who played it though, but personally I'd have been pretty fed-up if I hadn't saved as often as I did.
This was a game that I was determined to play without looking at a walkthrough or hint, however I had to on a couple of occassions, one being because I'd negleted to right click on some item and the other was when absolutely stuck, couldn't progress to the next chapter even though I knew darn well I'd done everything and picked up everything that I needed, only to find that I'd done something in the wrong order!!
I'll have to check out Nibiru - now you mention it, I do seem to remember seeing a link to it before but hadn't realised it was from the same company that made Black Mirror so thanks for drawing my attention to it!

That certainly sounds like a game I would like. Personally, I don't mind occasionally playing an adventure game that is merely an interactive storybook, especially if it is a really good story. I might PM you when I get around to picking up the game, though, and ask you where I should watch for a possible dead-end.

Yes you should try them. They have little things added in that makes the story even better than the originals and the artwork is just great.
