Status : Online | I'm playing Return to Mysterious Island. I've never played a game with so much inventory. I'm still having fun with it though, although one has to become a regular chemist LOL to be able to come up with some of the things needed. So far I really want to be able to explore ALL of the island but I don't think one can, although you never know. I'm about to go into the moster infested underground water with my underwater suit (as soon as I figure out a few things, HaHaHa.

Exactly what I was thinking. Take the ideas in that game, double the length, add a few extra endings, and get away from node-based and you have the future of adventure gaming right there.

About to Finish: Resident Evil 4 (Awesome game. I'm at the final boss fight right now.) Half Life 2 (One of the best single-player FPS experiences ever. A little short, but I could easily see myself replaying it.)
On Hold: Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines (I'm close to the end, but the last few missions got so tedious, I just couldn't bring myself to finish it.)
On and Off: WarioWare: Touched! (Adventure games are fun, but you have to have a little variety. This is twitch gaming at it's finest.) World of Warcraft (I've got a Lv. 20 Troll Shaman.)

| Deleted User | I just finished a quick scan of the previous postings. I find it interesting how many of you/us are playing older games. Does that mean that there is nothing new that is noteworthy or exciting? Or have you played it all?
I am waiting for a batch of upcoming games but nothing that has been released recently has sounded worth the effort or the expense. But to be fair, nothing game wise has turned me on recently.
It is also interesting how many of you are playing Zork Nemesis (wonderful game) for the first time. Do you remember why you didn't play it when it was new to the market? What has prompted you to play it now.

Oh wait, I remember playing text adventures a lot back then too, which were all fan-made freeware by that point. I used to download them by the dozen from the Interactive Fiction newsgroup. Most of them sucked, though, but there were a few diamonds in the rough, like Curses.

wimli,
No, I am pretty sure that Road to India is a stand alone game. Jerusalem was part of a series but I can't remember the other titles. And it might have been part of only two instead of three. I might be wrong but I think that number three was cancelled.
You're right, Pompeii was the first one in the Timescape series apparently, not Road to India. Hm, maybe I should pick that one up then, I've seen a budget version of it recently, held off until now because of bad memories to Jerusalem. Have you played Road to India some more? Does it get any better?
I played Runaway. Cute game. Nice diversion. Attractive graphics. Crazy characters, especially the drag queens.
I've had it for a while now, never got round to playing it, don't really know why. Well, that's about to change soon.

For me the reason is simple: my pc just can't run recent games. With so many good games still out there to play, and being a student not having the money to upgrade at the moment, I'm sticking with the older games right now.

Hi Harriet, I'm always scanning to see what's coming up in news releases and to be honest I don't see too many things that appeal to me. No true AGs. The games as we knew them are morphing into something that I don't care for. Where are the likes of: Zork (all of them) Timelapse Journeyman Obsidian Etc.....
I do keep replaying some older games for the lack of newer true AGs.

I'll admit many of the newer releases haven't looked all that impressive to me. But the main reason is that I only have moderate adventure experience and still have quite a few classics to play. Three Tex Murphy games, two Discworld games....The Longest Journey....you get the picture. I mean, I've only played half the games on our forum top 50 list, so I have a bunch of oldies but goodies to go!

I can't really get into the older games I've played before... Hence I play very few adventure games these days even though I yearn for some great NEW adventures... Its more a reto-gaming pursuit than anything else these days it seems.

I started playing older games when my husband picked up games that I have around the house that I'd already played. Then he started asking for help on some and I got sucked back into playing them, realizing how much fun they are... more fun then the newer games I've been playing. And they are still more interesting then most of the games that are selling now. Luckily we both like the same type of AG.

I'm making up for it now with a little help from eBay and companies like Wyrmkeep who are redoing some of the oldies.

Seeing as how I'm pretty behind on games, it also seems to be a safer bet to play a game that already has widespread acclaim and has stood the test of time, than it is to take a chance on a newer one.

I'm almost finished A Quiet Weekend in Capri (still wandering around Villa Jovis) and am about to start up Gabriel Knight 1 and Conspiracies again...
The other game on hold is Seven Games of the Soul (a.k.a Faust) because, well... CD4 snapped in half accidentally! >  Can anyone help? :'()
Right now I'm also in "Retro Replay" mode, when I dig out classics like Day of the Tentacle, Sam & Max, Dark Seed and even old graphic adventures like Critical Mass which I play on my Apple II emulator!
My best pal (I finally got him hooked last year on AGs ) just bought Physicus and Chemicus for $1.99 CDN each from the bargain bin at his local video store and will give them to me once he's finished! I just wish he'd also hurry up and finish TLJ so I can play it again! I still miss April, sniff... :'(

Ok, thanks for the warning! I'll leave Road to India on standing on the store shelves then.

Not really had a lot of time to play lately I'm afraid. Most of my time seems to go to animating and so on. I've been thinking about getting back into The Feeble Files when I've got some time.

| Deleted User | Wimli, Yes, I have played more of Road To India. Not great. Not bad. I would give it a low B, like a B-. Some of it is inane at best. I just had to have a conversation with a monkey to solve a puzzle. Yes, seriously. But thus far, it is entertaining. But not inspiring.
You should play Runaway. Also not a great game in my opinion but better than many. Light hearted.
I understand about money and the cost of games and computers. You are making a wise choice by sticking with some of the older and quality games. You have plenty of reviews to read on them to see if they fit your interests plus, they are cheaper as time passes.
------------------------------------------------------
jamarchand, The reason I am sticking with Road To India is that it is an easy play so far. I don't want to invest a lot of time into it as there are some interesting games hitting the shelves soon.
-------------------------------------------------------- Bazza, my husband enjoyed Silent Hunter 1 very much. He was not over impressed with 2. What do you think of 3 as compared to the others? Or did you play either of them?
---------------------------------------------------------
Avaka and Andromus, I agree with you about the older games that you mention. I don't know if I am jaded or spoiled, but nothing has impressed me (much) in the past year. I wasn't even thrilled with Syberia 2, though I loved Syberia 1. Most of the releases have been run of the mill at best.
I am, however, interested in:
Still Life (unless it is too much like Post Mortem which I found sort of blah) Loath Nolder (if they finish it) Longest Journey 2 Martin Mystere The Agatha Christie game - And Then There Were None Nibiru (I hope that it is not too big into scfi and space ships) Delaware St. John Midnight Manor A Vampyre Story
----------------------------------------------------
Lady Kestral, I am a PC person myself but I have always found it irritating and unfair that almost all of the games are for PC and not the MAC. MAC is sadly left out.
---------------------------------------------------
Trunkyo, Seven Games of the Soul received terrific reviews. I think that almost everyone in the game playing world loved it - with the exception of me. I just couldn't get interested in it. Though I did enjoy the music.
I remember playing Dark Seed years ago. Very good game.
-----------------------------------------------
Susan, I am embarrassed to admit that I have never played a KQ game. That is almost unAmerican. The fairy tale storyline never thrilled me. I am more fond of mysteries.
-----------------------------------------------------
Wolfboy, I have Feeble Files but have never played it. Actually, I have a number of games that I have never played. I managed to collect lots while I was writing the Schedule of New Releases. I need to get into my stack and see what I really have.  uh...
