I finally gathered enough money to buy a PS2! It's so good to play brand new videogame titles at my living room again after all this time without a new console!

Now I'm looking for suggestions of the best games released for the PS2 system. I love platform games like Mario and Zelda, and I like action/adventures too. I prefer third-person games. Oh, and I enjoy RPGs too.

But feel free to suggest any other type of game you guys think are also great to play.

Thanks in advance! [smiley=detective.gif]

If you don't have them yet, you could play adventure games that were made for consoles: BS3 & Syberia to start off with.

I miss my Bubba: 1986 - 2006.

ANY of the "Resident Evil" games, and if you like spooky, I highly recommend the "Fatal Frame" games.

do you like survival horror? if so here's a small list to get you started:

parasite eve 1 and 2

silent hill 1 (those 3 are ps1 games, but will play fine)
fatal frame 2 (by all means!)
resident evil code veronica x (best of the series)
kuon (GREAT horror-wise, but not very challenging as a game... only if you are a horror fan)
x-files resist or serve (if you are an x-files fan)
echo night beyond (ps2-only space horror adventure - might get a bit repetitive though, but you'll like it if you're into space horror)
devil may cry (more action but still pretty good)

You have gotten the attention of the mysterious lady. She turns to face you. Her face is devoid of any flesh. You are frozen with horror as she begins ripping your body into a bloody mess.

Hi DJ
If you like RPG's you can try the Final Fantasy games. And did you also know that you can play all the original Playstation games on the PS2 console. The latest ps2 rpg that I have played is Lord of the Rings The Third Age. Excellent graphics and sound. The Silent Hill series has some great scary game moments in them. If you like racing games you can try Ridge Racer. Just a few of the hundreds of games you have access to now.
Have fun with your new ps2. But don't forget to sleep once in a while.

Why wait all this time to buy a PS2?  It's already painfully outdated technology-wise.

whaaaaa?

Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance

the best game EVER made. you PS2 owner guys even get the Snakeboarding mini-game-something thingy in Substance
(the original MGS2 is called Sons of Liberty - Substance is an 'extended' version, with some extra gameplay and options.. worth buying, I guess)

MGS2 is the best game released on any platform

Only now I got all the money to buy it (with the help of my 2 brothers). The PS2 still is incredibly high priced in Brazil, even after all these years since its original release.

The games are also high priced, and are not easy to find.

About the "painfully outdated technology", you may find interesting to know that brazilian stores still sell new models of old consoles like the sega genesis and super nes, and the cartridges are also extremely high priced. My PS2 is not that outdated around here!

In any case, I don't really care if the technology is new or not, I just care for the games.

I will definetely get BS3 (after I play the first two for the PC). But I already played the 2 Syberia games.

Thanks for the suggestions, Helen and Donna.

Also thanks for the great survival horror list, Aya. I forgot there was a X-Files game for the PS2. [smiley=detective.gif]

Cathy, I will probably try one of the Final Fantasy games later, I heard they take tooo much time to finish.

Hi!

Congratulations on getting a PlayStation 2!

I highly recommend the Final Fantasy series, even if it takes a long time to finish.

These games have very good stories, interesting characters and beautiful graphics and music, and some tough battles, but they are well worth the time they take to finish.

Deleted UserThe Jak & Dexter series (3 parts so far) is fantastic. Jak 1 was my first PS2 game and still has stunning graphics Jak 1 & 2 are available as Platinum versions already.

Also Ratchet & Clank are superb J&R games despite most magazines I prefer the Jak & Dexter titels, though.
