No, the disc isn't damaged, it's my original disc that she's using, I checked it the other day and it's fine, I even have a copy here which I usually use myself rather than the original - for obvious reasons seeing the game was hard enough to come by in the first place - and she's tried both.
Still, I know she wouldn't have tried copying the files to a folder manually, so thanks, I'll email her and let her know to try that.
Kuddles, I'm not even sure what message she's getting, just said it installed part way and then stopped - this is the second weekend she's tried too. As always, it's a bit awkward trying to help her when we're in two different places, but thanks anyway.

Honestly I got to Day 9 and never finished after those awful zombies attacked me so many times. I am looking forward to finishing the game and putting it back on my Won't sale/trade shelf .

I know this just may not be the answer, but ask her how she knows it stops. I've used both the GK1 and GK2 installers, and they both seem to act like they are doing nothing about a third of the way through and it takes an unusually long time before it continues.
Other than that, my only other guess is that the communication between the installer and her Cd drive isn't working properly.
Sorry. ???

Well, that's not something I've asked, thanks, I'll try and give her a ring at work this morning if I can get hold of her. Actually I thought she said a week ago that it sort of started to play the first time she used the installer but that there was something wrong with the sound - I could be wrong about that, I know she downloaded VDM sound - but she said the game itself didn't show up in Windows Explorer or anywhere else on the computer - as I wasn't there when this happened I'm not quite sure what actually happened, but whatever it was, she's since tried several times to install it with no success.
It's bad enough when you have a game already installed and it won't play, seems to me it's even worse when you can't install the thing in the first place.

Thanks to your input here it appears that our daughter has at last installed GK1. She rang me last night to say that she used the installer again and this time just went off and did something else for awhile (not just the 4 or 5 mins. that she'd left it originally). When she came back the game had installed and was running through the introduction as we spoke! Obviously she just hadn't given it enough time the first couple of times she tried installing. Well, I'm just writing this in case anyone else has the same problem - and maybe it wouldn't take so long on some computers, but hers is a 2.6Ghz. so the computer itself shouldn't be slow but it could have something to do with the way it's setup I suppose.

Status : Online | Mine is a 2.6 as well, and while I don't recall it taking longer than 5 minutes, it does seem like a weird "freezing" effect. My guess is that is one of the very large files that all needs to be moved in one chunk unto the hard drive and/or changes need to be made to it so that it will play from the hard drive.
Anyways, glad to hear things worked out!

No Jalex - no bad disc! This was just because my daughter was trying to install it on her new XP computer - it plays fine on Win98 which is what I have myself, the new GK1 & 2 Installer seems to be a godsend for playing these two games on XP when for some people even Dosbox doesn't seem to work.
