Yes, you can't just make any notes; you have to make them so that they could be photocopied directly without any changes into a full-color guide or walkthru!
Now don't get too much sun, Caroline. BTW, I heard that if you approach the sunners very, very slowly down the stairs from the maglev, you can actually get close enough to touch one. I haven't tried it yet. Has anyone else?
Funny- when I replayed Riven a few months ago, I sauntered down to the beach, saw the sunners in the distance, approached a little closer & totally surprised by what I saw, yelled out 'Hey Caroline!' [smiley=rofl.gif] [smiley=rofl.gif]

Which explains nicely why no matter how slowly I crept up on them yesterday, and I stood veerryyy still.... they still took off. They obviously expected my noisy companion to arrive any minute!
Oh Dave, be a dear and see if you can get here in time to rub the sun cream into my back before I burn....

Just came across an article I had cut out of the Oct2000 issue of Computer Games- was a preview of Myst Exile where they were interviewing Rand Miller & the people at Presto.
In it, it says 'Presto hopes to steer Myst III somewhere between Myst and Riven'. Then Presto's president, Michel Kripalani (also the producer & director of the JourneyMan Project games) says 'The structure is a lot closer to Myst. We really loved the whole concept where Myst Island was a hub age and you had these offshoots to all the other ages. Not to criticize Riven, but I think that Cyan lost a little bit of that magic with Riven. There's something magical about solving a puzzle or series of puzzles to get to a whole new age and we want to make sure that was put back into it.'

Status : Offline | Have they any idea how jolly frustrating Myst was for me when I discovered I couldn't get off the ship before I'd solved the puzzles? I was trapped in each age.  rove me batty.
And as for Uru and Relto - I spent more time in that little house than I did anywhere else in the game. I got sick to bloody death being relocated there. In fact, by the time I'd waited for the screen to load I was determined to actually do something more than just click on the damn book again so I usually changed my clothes. Talk about playing Barbie Doll game...... >
And I still don't know who stole my best purple patterned t-shirt. I had it in Uru and then the expansions took it away..... > >

Take for example the trees, there are no straight lines in the branches in Riven trees of the kind you see in 3D games. They are more angular in the 3D games of course because the technology isn't there yet to make 3D have smooth gameplay movement AND have the natural realistic look of trees in Riven. But I hope I'm alive when they have it in 3D releases. It will probably have to be close to or equal to DVD quality, maybe 7 to 10 years from now?
Oh, EDIT, the SpeedTree tree creation software for 3D games may have trees with a much more natural look. I checked out their demos but I think it still has too many angular qualities where the branches intersect the tree trunks. Maybe others know more about SpeedTree in this regard.

I spent far too much time looking for some sort of switch the would manipulate that thing. The presence of things like that really bug me because you keep thinking that you're supposed to search to find out what they do- only to find they do nothing. Once that happens, you wonder whether you should spend time on other objects that look like they should do something!

Of course it was the frog catcher that bugged the hell out of me. I never got that to work but couldn't stop fiddling with it, convinced it must do something. [smiley=doh.gif]

I don't think we're talking about the same thing. When you arrive on the forest island you come thru the cavern passage & go up the rocky stairs (instead of down to the beach where the sunners are) & then cross a suspended footbridge. As you cross, if you look to th left there's a humongous round thingy that would be many feet in diameter that looks like something from an Indiana Jones movie that could come down and slice the bridge in two. It couldn't possibly be confused with a telescope!

It couldn't possibly be confused with a telescope! That's exactly what I'm referring to. There's a picture of four knives on this page; it's the third image from the left. http://www.geocities.com/p_aarli/temple.html The object is a knife; you interpreted the circular device as some sort of blade. I looked at the handle and thought it was a telescope, and interpreted the circular object as some sort of larger structure, an observatory perhaps.

That's it alright! How could I have doubted another 'Everything Myst/Riven aficiando'? So they call that a knife, eh? Had me fooled!
