OK, firstly, thanks to all that took part both here and at Adventure Gamers in the MOTTA threads. There weren't a lot of you, but you put in some great choices which are listed above.
Vote for the most heinous misuse, whichever one you feel has commited the biggest whoopsie when coining our beloved genre!
This poll will close in one week. Additions CAN BE MADE so PM me - however, they will be late so might not garner as many of the votes as the ones above.
Remember you can change your vote if the new addition is worthy of doing so! Late additions will still get runner up emails and a place on the list!
GET VOTING!
[size=18]***The Nominees***
PC IGN for Pirates!, "Adventure Game Of The Year" http://bestof.ign.com/2004/pc/
GameChronicles for LSL:Magna Cum Laude, labelled adventure AND given Editors Choice http://www.gamechronicles.com/reviews/pc/larry/magnacum.htm
1UP.com, GTA:San Andreas, "Adventure Game Of The Year" http://www.1up.com/do/feature?cId=3137663
Gametunnel, for both Gish "Adventure Game Of The Year" and their definition of an adventure - Game Tunnel defines adventure games as either platform games, think Super Mario Bros. (Charlie II for indie purists), or action games that are heavier on the storyline and lighter on the action (those that have RPG aspects, but aren't really RPGs). http://www.gametunnel.com/html/section-viewarticle-66.html
VGManiacs, Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, "Adventure Game Of The Year http://www.vgmaniacs.com/vgm/view.php?id=573
Gamespot, labelled Silent Hill 4: The Room and LSL:MCL as adventures http://www.gamespot.com/reviews.html?platform=pc&tag=gs_lnav_reviews

Status : Offline | the decision is still tough, since ALL of the above deserve the award! but i think 1up.com really excelled! i completely disregard gametunnel since they have their own world and tell everyone about it!
still think gamespot should get a nice honorable mention (if they don't win) for being the #1 mislabelers on the inet!

I'll put in an honorable mention for Gamespot for overall general mis-characterizing games... but the blue ribbon still goes to 1up as far as I'm concerned...

When the original thread started, I voted for IGN's laughable selection of Sid Meier's Pirates! for AGOTY but was not aware of 1UP's ridiculously lame choice of GTA: San Andreas at the time. So I have changed my opinion and voted for the latter as Supreme AG Mislabeling Doofus Boneheads of the Year.
I'm sorry but that is taking even the broadest definition of AGs and even Action-Adventures too far and they deserve to be mercilessly ridiculed...a lot.
Cheers, Terry

I predict a tie between IGN and 1UP.

I think someone should!

Status : Offline | I would have thought PC-IGN would win hands-down for Pirates until 1UP.COM came up with GTA SanAndreas. Personally, I don't think that can be beat. On the other hand- I nominate Scrabble On-Line (latest version) as Adventure Game of the Year!

The future ain't what it used to be!

Others use the term haphazardly, but they go ahead and officially misappropriate the term, making them the obvious choice for the Misappropriation Of The Term Adventure award.
The only hit against them is that they did go outside their official definition of adventure and nominate The Witch's Yarn, but it didn't win in the end.

After all, we walk, turn, read, pull, push, click, sing, listen, search, touch, ascend, descend, view, and open. All these things are actions. Yup! I play action games. :

Wanted to vote for more than one, but 1up's GTA has got to be the weirdest choice on the list. oy
