Interesting that I haven't seen a single post concerning this game here - The Watchmaker...  Maybe I just missed it?.

What's you opinion on this one?

What?

I thought it was a good game myself - fair on graphics, a bit odd on story - but adequate.  Interesting gameplay overall.

I was just curious if anyone else had played through it.

What?

I played it a while back.  Liked it except their clump, clump when they walked.  Though it a good touch to be able to switch back and forth between them.  Enough puzzle wise and inventory  to keep me happy and they did have some danger too.

Deleted UserI downloaded the Demo of Watchmaker and put it on my "List" ..... so far haven't seen it in the stores, but what else is new?  No promotion of this game as having "Myst-like" graphics, so the games buyers have just skipped over it, I gather.  Shame.  Another Adventure Game that newbies won't ever get to try out. ???

I really liked Watchmaker, theres nothing better than exploring an old Austrian castle. It was hard though...I never knew what to do next. I needed a walkthrough.
The voice acting wasn't great, especially the supervisor's wife...she sounded like a zombie.
This is the kind of game I love a walkthrough for. It was more like an interactive movie for me. It still took me a few days to finish it.

Wasn't that supervisor's wife the WORST?!!!  Specially when she was supposed to YELL for help.  She just "cried" for help in this dull, low monotone.

Other than the voice acting, I enjoyed the game.

Although I really liked the Watchmaker-one thing in my opinion was missing..a map to jump from place to place. The Watchmaker is not the only game "guilty" of this. So many RPG's would be more user friendly with maps.

Havent got the game yet, but I plan to soon. Glad to
be hearing good things about it.  And sounds like the voice acting might give me a few laughs.

I am in the midst of this game and am not enjoying it at all.  Mostly, I guess, because my graphics are fouled up (a problem which some of you wonderful people have been trying to help me with)

But other than that,  the graphics I do have are blocky.
the voice acting is awful.
Its a long way to go to get anywhere.
You have to talk to all these people, using both characters.  the people say mostly the same thing to both with only slight differences.  Basically you have to go through each speech twice.  As I commented on the Longest Journey:  too much talking.

I hope I will enjoy it more as I progress...if I can progress.  It's hard to do when you're in an office or kitchen yet are surrounded by mountains....

Now that I've played Watchmaker, I'll revise my opinion... a little.

I do prefer a third person view,  and a cursor that will show me the hot spots.  I hate watching the character walk and walk and walk...

I also prefer to point and click.  This game had me using the mouse, the arrow keys, the space bar and the tab key for various functions.  I found it confusing and clumsy.

The game was a lot more fun after I got through interviewing everyone twice.

There was a nice mix of puzzles, some hard, some not.  I had a lot of trouble finding inventory items and details because of my graphics trouble.

There weren't a lot of cues as to where to go or what to do next,   I find that frustrating and need a walkthrough to keep from getting bored and discouraged.  Schizm drove me crazy wandering all over the planet trying to figure out what to do next! And I quit the Chrystal Key because of that.

And I thought the storyline was pretty good , mostly just exploring, trying to find thins and accomplish tasks.  Seems like most game stories involve something supernatural or cosmic or  magic or something. This wasn't any more bizzare than the Banshee on the Cameron Files.

I had a post going about the first game by the makers of Watchmaker that they're offering for free. In case you missed that post (how could you!), here's where you can get 'In the Dead of Night'

Have you played WatchMaker SirDave? I was thinking about that game, but if you have to use the keyboard also, I don't think I'd like it.  :-/

Belinda-

I have Watchmaker but haven't played it yet. I have been in a rabid period of game-accumulation that is outstripping my capability to play the games I'm getting. I've pretty much completed my collection and plan to sit back now and totally enjoy the experience. Have 4 games going at once now and am totally hung up in 2 of them. I guess us adventure-gamers are masochists in one way or another!

The keyboard use in Watchmaker bothers me, but some reviews seemed to indicate that it really isn't much of a problem. We'll see!

Hi SirDave,
I downloaded In The Dead of The Night. Even though I am enjoying the game is it right that there's no sound? Just wondering.
Thanks

Sorry I don't know about the sound. Only just downloaded it myself and wanted to let others know about. Haven't fired it up or played it yet!

In my not so humble opinion - Piece of GARBAGE, WASTE of MONEY!!!!!!  If my development teams released our business software with so many flaws (both technical and artistic) we would have to give the client their money back. I stopped probably half way through out of boredom and frustration which isn't like me, I normally play every game through to the end unless it is too "buggy" and won't play forward anymore.

Oh well, we live and learn.

I suspect there is no sound, as this is a very small file.  I'm enjoying the game too...though I'm already stuck....Catherine, how are you getting along?  By the way, the game does crash every so often, so save fairly often..
