Seriously, though, it would be nice to know your preferences, as this place is a fairly big tent, and there's little which can be taken for granted.

Then again, you may be a bit of a bitzer like our Terry: bit of this, bit of that....
And then there's the other option.... you might care not to answer and we'll just talk about you instead.

Sorry...
My side of the fence would be:
1st person
and MYST! is my favourite game (at least of the adventure genre) along with the superb SCRATCHES DIRECTOR`S CUT!
I can see you don't like the longest journey very much... I hate it too...
So I'm not Terry I guess...
And me, well, that's not THAT important to waste your time on reading about...

Now, which Myst?.... my own preference is for Riven, then Myst, then Uru then End of Ages, then Exile, then last - Revelation (basically because it was too hard for me and it broke my computer).

Uru in third place, End of Ages in fourth? Very interesting. I remember you enjoyed them, particularly Uru, but I would have guessed you would have put them lower than that as they're very much a departure from your first two picks.

List your preferred Myst order. In fact why not start a totally new thread..? [smiley=devil_smiley_grintail.gif] That way, we can really go to town on the topic and do it properly... the Syberia debate is winding down now.... we could do with stirring the passions a bit...

Not a bad idea. I think I will. Even if it only makes the anti-Mysters groan, it will be worth it.

Status : Online | Hi, just shocked myself to realize that I'm one of the non-posting members, hadn't realized that time goes by so quickly (it's your age, my dear). :-[
Anyway, I'm retired, now living in Ontario after almost 25 years in the UK. My British husband is still getting to grips with the fact of snow, but loves his garden after years of only having a small concrete yard to play with. We owned a small newsagents in the UK and it's been a learning curve getting used to just being by ourselves, rather than serving customers 7 days a week. I'm thoroughly enjoying having lots and lots of free time to play games, do some sewing, and lots of reading.
Promise I will post oftener in the future.

As a fellow Canadian and Ontarian in particular, it's always gratifying to see another snow-bound northerner to offset all those dastardly Australians; it seems there's a new one every week! /me winks at Caroline.
Seriously, though, if your husband still needs convincing over the whole snow business, you may want to insist he indulge in a snow angel. There are few activities involving snow which are more relaxing whilst also being rewarding. Of course it's the wrong time of year for that now, but it's just a matter of time, isn't it?
In any case, welcome again. Lots to do here, especially when one is in a silly mood. I hope you don't plan on being shy.

Having recently taken my children to see snow for the first time and having experienced a blizzard, I take my hat off to anyone who voluntarily chooses to live with that sort of weather. It sure looks nice but I'll take my Aussie sunshine anyday.

Status : Online | I´ve completely overseen this thread until now, so i´ll say hi to everyone right now. I´m a 26 year old student from germany, who is one of the teammembers of the german adventuresite www.adventurecorner.de .
I started playing adventures in 1991 ( Monkey Island1) and i guess you could say i´m as passionate about adventures as i was back then. My favorite game series are the Gabriel Knight and Tex Murphy games.
When i first played Gabriel Knight1 my whole adventureworld turned upside down, since i was never as impressed by anything like in this case and never experienced something as intensive as GK.   Still looking for the game that will blow me away as much as GK1 and 2 did, but it´s been a pretty long search until today ) So it became a tradition - i don´t wanna miss- that i´m replaying the Gabriel Knight and Tex Murphy games on a regular basis. Other favorite adventures : Phantasmagoria2 ( I like part 1 as well, but 2 is definately my favorite) Indiana Jones and the fate of atlantis The Riddle Of Master Lu Blade Runner Fahrenheit (Indigo Prophecy) The Dig Dark Seed 1&2 + Noctropolis ( In these examples i think the gameplay is pretty bad , but i love the atmosphere of these games) Inherit The Earth Quest For Glory 4 ( and surely quite some other adventuregames, that don´t come to my mind right now )
What i rather don´t like are games like Myst and everything that´s got the name Benoit Sokal on it ( I admit it).
My favorite adventure-authors are Jane Jensen, Aaron Conners and Martin Ganteföhr.
Cool to finally be on this board, after visiting justadventure.com for many, many years now ( and i´m still stoked by this institution and the great work the JA team delivers!). Cheers.

I'll just say it's nice to meet you and that I forgive you for not liking the Myst series although I shall put a special mark in my book next to your name.
As an ethnic Irish person, I must say it tickles me to meet a German who picks my mother-in-law's maiden name as his own. Arrrr t' be shur t' be shur tis a fine name, Murphy...

| Deleted User | Hi, Murphy, it's lucky for us that you turned from lurker to poster on this site, as your posts have been pretty informative, in general. May I also congratulate you on your good command of English. We have quite a few European members, who are non-native English speakers, although you would never believe it, as some of them have a better command of English than many native English speakers ! 8-)
Welcome, and we certainly hope to see a lot more of you!

After some years of mostly playing MMORPGs (Guild Wars, World of Warcraft, Age of Conan, Rappelz, Shaiya and many more) I came back to the more relaxing adventure games these days by finally playing Broken Sword - Angel of Death - which had gotten quite a bit dusty next to the batch of other unplayed adventures.
Well I'm back, with new nick but old pic. (seems my old one, "Ogre", got deleted and I couldn't figure out a way to reactivate it).
While I'm at it, a factor that has bugged me since years now came to a great impact. Why is it that especially adventure games have such a low resolution and mostly even a fixed setting? I'm playing Broken Sword 4 on my 46' LCD TV - connected via HDMI with my PC and wireless mouse and keyboard. I can't play most adventure games on it, though, since you can't change the resolution.
Anyway. I'm happy to be back. Greetings to everyone.
