Don't know how Indie 1958 manages to be 48. I'm 48 and I was born in 1957. At least..... I think I'm still only 48. Actually, I heard myself say my age the other day and I was struck by how much nicer 44 sounded. I rather think I'd like to be 44 for a year or two. [smiley=angel_smiley.gif]

Dear All:
Good afternoon from Canada!! I hope this finds you and yours well. As for me, I could complain...yadda, yadda, yadda.
First of all, thank you kindly one and all for the warm welcomes you have given me.  o the math. Ignore all the first numbers in the years 1958 and 2006. Sixteen minus 8 is 8. You borrow 1 from the tens' place. Nine minus 5 is 4.
There you have it--48.
Live long and prosper, take care and thank you kindly!!!
Sincerely yours always,
Indy.

Caroline - Perhaps the difference comes from whether or not you've celebrated your birthday yet this year. Or maybe you did but due to a rare occurrence in the space-time continuum, you didn't get any older.

I've been posting for a number of days now, but just came across this thread, so I guess it would be a good idea to introduce myself. I also live north of the 49th. Can be cold, but right now it's not .
I'm pretty new to adventure games, and have never played a Tombraider game in my life. I've only seen the 1st movie, but adopted the handle because of what I do for a living (errr- yup- think Egypt and digging in the dirt- love it!)
My biggest confusion seems to be all the different types of adventure games. Which games fall into which categories? Which ones are considered IF? Are RPGs also considered Adventure games? To me I think if you're going on any type of an adventure it's an adventure game, but perhaps not? (Just afraid I'm sticking posts in all the arong places... :-[)
Well, the last thing I have to say is that this is a great forum. I signed up because I needed some technical help, and everyone's been very kind and helpful.
Nice to meet you all!

I understand your confusion about what constitutes an adventure. The mainstream gamer's definition is extremely broad for starters, and even adventure gamers often disagree on that as well. Now I'm a traditionalist myself, and the short answer is that (IMO) an adventure game focuses on puzzles, and to a somewhat lesser extent storytelling, with no or little action involved. Now though we have so called "action/adventure" games these days, what constitutes a puzzle, and how much action one can add to a game before you no longer have an adventure is something adventure gamers can practically get into fist fights over.
"IF" usually refers to text adventures only, Colossal Cave, Zork, and all their descendants.
RPG's aren't considered adventure games by most as they have strong combat and strategy elements adventure games traditionally do not, although they do have some adventure game elements in them (rudimentary puzzles, and focus on a story).

Maybe I'll arrange to get an avatar that's more representative of who I am though- like Mara.
I do have red hair and green eyes if that helps...

Even though I haven't been active on this forum, I visit JA several times every week. I'm also quite freqently over at Adventure Gamers, and I've been at that forum for quite a while (with a different name).
Since I don't have a pic of myself, I thought I'd post one of my cat too
