Just wondering what everyone thinks about this new approach, especially the e-zine

Thanks for the link, Randy!  I just subscribed and also played a bit of the tomb game.  I saw the King Tut exhibit in Washington, DC when it toured the US 20 years ago and was very impressed with how the Toblers put together ROTS with real artifacts as models.  I'm looking forward to having fun with this.

Best of all this adventure may be made solo or with other adventurers from the EAM community!

Does that mean their next game will be an online game?
Or just one with an option for playing online?
Or are there more than two adventure games being discussed - one standalone game and a separate online game that is associated with the ezine?

It's an axolotl.

I would love to give it a try but I think it's just a little too pricey.  For about half the price I would give it a go.  I really enjoy and respect their work but right now, with the budget I'm on, I can't swing $45 for access to a website.

Eek!  I just realized that it was nearly 30 years ago that the King Tut exhibit was here last.  My first view of that beautiful solid gold mask is still so vivid in my mind that it seems like yesterday.

Hi all!

Saw the thread and thought I could answer these questions and clear up exactly what EAM-Zine is about. First, the quote about going solo or with a community references the site in whole. If you want to lurk, stay in the shadows - fine. But with the forum, ratings, comments, and contributions that can be made, those wishing a richer experience can have it.

The online games will be a combination of originals and redux with Egyptian themes/skins. Some arcade, small adventures, puzzles, even a few crossword and seek - but all based on ancient Egypt's mysteries, treasure, etc. But all small online games (Flash or Shockwave) and meant to carry us ancient Egypt adventurers throughout the year.

The once a year epic adventure is more along the lines of Riddle of the Sphinx (ROTS), but with enhanced graphics/engine - a large-scale adventure into realistically rendered tombs, pyramids, and monuments based on a story involving both fact and fiction. While it will be delivered online (downloadable), and may be shipped, it will not be played online. Karen and I believe this type of game is best played off-line. That doesn't mean we won't post a demo for online play, nor does it preclude us from having the game connected in some form to other players (nothing like that has been decided). However, the next game design doc IS 95% complete, and work has begun on levels.

So, subscribers get exclusive and early access to the game (screen-shots, demos, input/polls, etc.), first access to the game upon release, and many more benefits. But EAM-Zine is much more than a launching ground for an adventure game.

With each issue we feature intriguing mysteries, monuments, and treasures. We reconstruct monuments/objects and let subscribers explore and examine. In a way, those interactive elements of the site are much like an adventure game, without the puzzles of course.

And we have reviews of movies, books, and anything other media featuring ancient Egypt. For example, the first edition includes a review of Disney's National Treasure, and the article will be packed full of goodies!

Ok, I'll shut up now, but let me know if you have any more questions... I'm happy to answer them.

Thank you so much for that information, Jeff!  Will the big game be playable on a Mac, as Riddle of the Sphinx and The Omega Stone are?

Bless you, Mr. Tobler!  :-*  I look forward to playing it!  BTW, ROTS and TOS are two of my all-time favorites!
