I did a full installation of the new Cameron Files, and it appeared to install smoothly.  But when I click on the icon to play I get a black screen for a few seconds, then back to the desktop.

I tried clicking on the desktop icon, and on the program from the menu, and tried to open in from the "run" line, and by just opening and closing cd tray.  Same thing every time.

I uninstalled it, and reinstalled using the standard installation, with the same results.

I have a 5000 series Compaq,  Pentium 3, 128 MB (most still free),  11 MB "allocated as Video Memory".

I have played numerous games, like the Mysts, the other Cameron File, Longest Journey, Syberia, all without problems.   I have had a few games that would freeze. I

I'm not particularly savy about computers, so I don't know if I've included the right info needed.  But I sure hope someone can help me with this.

Thank you in advance,

Megan.

Sounds like a video card problem.  First thing to try is, if there is a configuration option try setting the display to run in software mode.
most likely solution)

If that doesn't work.

Other things to try, update your Direct X to version 8.0a. Go to the Compaq site and see if they have newer audio and video drivers for your computer.

Good luck

I'm  not sure how to configure the video card.

I have gone through the control panel and cant figure out which menu would allow me to configure the video card.  The card in this machine is the intel 82810e DC 133.  But I can't figure out how many MB it has.

I have gone through all the troubleshooting menus.  I have reinstalled directX.

My other games are working just fine.  It's only this game that won't boot up.

I'm very frustrated.

YIPEE  I found it!   It was in the Cameron Files menu.

It's working fine now.  Thank you!

There could be a good reason for that. The i810 is an integrated graphics chipset and uses portion of system RAM as video RAM. The amount of video memory is not fixed and may be changed.
I forgot my sig.
