Deleted UserI started the game about a week ago but I have been so busy with Christmas things that I haven't touched it since the day I loaded it.  The story seems good but I miss Dr. Watson (who is not in this game).  Also, it runs rather slowly.  There is a fairly long time lag between a mouse click and an action.

This game unfortunately uses synchronous mouse pointer (asynchronous is much more prevalent). This means that the mouse pointer is only updated when the entire image is re-displayed. As a consequence the cursor movement may be rather erratic, especially on "slower" machines. And if the game only delivers, say, 5 frames per second, it becomes exceedingly difficult to control the mouse.

You might want to try dropping the image quality a notch, that should speed things up.

Side note: synchronous cursor is very easy to implement. Getting asynchronous cursor right is certainly not trivial. However asynchronous pointer is the only way to get good responsiveness.
I forgot my sig.

I have been playing this game for two days and it is a nice game from an new developer.  The dialog is a bit weak. Sherlock Holmes is supposed to be super smart but they have him saying some pretty lame things. Also the graphics are a bit blurry when viewed close up and since some of the puzzles require reading or matching inventory items to hot spots on the screen this is tough.

I am also stuck on level 2. I have done everything I can in all the rooms and can't seem to continue. I only have the fork and the piece of bandage left in my inventory. I went to go to the Gameboomers web site and looked at the walkthrough. I tried to use the inventory items as suggested but no luck. Any advice would be appreciated.

Deleted UserI took about an hour break from Christmas preparation this afternoon and relaxed with Sherlock.

MichaelN:  I will make an adjustment to my pointer control the next time that I play.  And I will drop my image quality.   Thank you for the suggestions.

JC:  I am still in Level 1 so I can't be of any help to you yet.

JC, See below, it is a spoiler

SPOILER!!!!!!  Look way down in this message

************************

Use the fork on the picture in study over fireplace.  Sherlock will make a comment and then a tiny spot will appear and use the fork on the spot.

Haven't a clue so far as to what to use the bandage for and did you check out bathroom and other rooms but doubt that you have to do everything in any order.

I liked it except the graphics.  Sherlock ties up the story at the end very nicely.

The graphics were bad.  I had my monitor brightness all the way up because I was groping around trying to find things.

The sliders are easy, the timed puzzles have plenty of time.

He may have said some dumb things but I wasn't expecting Jeremy Brett type comments so I was okay with dialogue.

I have to agree with Red about the dialogue. I am being a bit too critical and I guess my expectations were a bit high. As I said before, I think it is an OK first game for new company. I think it would be better suited for adventure newbies than veterans. The puzzles were mostly on the easy side for me and there were too many "find the key or other device to opne the door" puzzles for my taste. As a mystery game I don't think it is as good as any of the Nancy Drew mysteries I have played but it is probably about equal to the Cameron Files games.

However, I had to give up on playing this game and had to use the Gameboomers walkthrough to finish it. In level 3 and 4 some of the rooms are so dark, even with my room lights turned off, that I could not see many of the inventory items scattered about even when I knew where to look from the walkthrough. The graphics are also a bit blurry when you go in for a closeup and some of the hotspots are virtually impossible to find. I did a lot of "screen sweeping" trying to find where to use some inventory items. This was made a bit more difficult since you have to pan virtually the entire 360 degree space around the spot where you are standing, including the floor and ceiling to find some items or hot spots.

Not only is Tally Ho's Sherlock w/t one of the best I have ever seen, but the tutorials on solving slider puzzles, nonograms, etc. simply boggle my mind.

Even if you don't play Sherlock, read Tally Ho's w/t just for the experience.

http://home.rochester.rr.com/ramahelp/Sherlock/Shlock.htm

We will also have it posted on the front page of JA as soon as we return from the holidays.

I have not heard of that happening - if you saw the brief cutscene of the panel opening, you should be able to go to it; right near the exit, and take the statue.

Please keep us informed if you learn something here.

Pippa,

The same thing happened to me in the rotating room. I couldn't pick up the statue in the hole in the floor. To fix it, I left the game, then restarted it and reloaded a saved game just before I started the rotating room puzzle. I redid the puzzle and then I could pick up the statue. So, I am not sure why that fixed the problem and what other variation might work. You might want to save the game and just go back and redo the puzzle.

Hi jc Yes i've done the same thing -reloades last saved game and was able to pick up statue ok. Am now on to the tile picture puzzle, should be easy but can't get bottom right hand corner right. but am enjoying it and will try again in morning. This game is really growing on me, can't wait for this company to bring out another one. It is so refreshing to get a new developer bringing out this sort of game, I will send them an e mail thanking them, may give them some encouragement in this world where action and shoot em up games seem to prevail.
Happy gaming
Pippa

Hi Pippa -

Just a hint; the bottom three rows should all be black to the left, with three white on the right.

(Probably you are referring to the rows 7 through 10(?) above the bottom, which also took me the longest.

Picture what Sherlock smokes.

Deleted UserI just bought before the New Years and still haven't played it until today. I hope its going to be a great game . Like the last time I played Alfred Hitchcock(same genre) I think it was a real life puzzle and it was tough.
