Status : Offline | I played the Sold Out Software release of Broken Sword under XP, and it worked well. I think I had to use the compatibility settings to get the maximum install to work but other than that it played as smooth as can be.

Status : Offline | Thanks, it is the Sold Out version she's after but I hadn't heard anything about it before. Now I've got to keep my fingers crossed that she wins her bid (actually I'm doing it for her - but same thing. )

Status : Online | XP can run programs in compatibility mode for windows 95.. works for most older games Here's some quick instructions cause I can sense that question is coming up..: Right-click on the exe file, choose properties. now look around for some option where you can change the compatibility mode, I think it says compatibility on the top, not sure (sitting on a mac now) When you've found it, change to the option "run in compatibility mode" and choose an old operative system of your choice in the drop-down menu.

BS1 will sometimes not install on XP (I had one go on without issue and another failed - both were the Sold Out version). However, I think a patch/workaround is available but I've no time as yet to locate it for ya! I'll be back as someone once said
Edit: I should have also said that SCUMMVM can also play BS1 (& 2)

Status : Offline | I have the Sold Out versions of both 1 and 2 and they worked fine on XP. Once I set them to compatibility mode. I had to do that to the installation .exe before it would even install, as well as doing it to the game's .exe before playing.
If you want step-by-step instructions, Inferno's site has them.

Status : Offline | Thanks again everyone. I won the game for her (he, he, I'll be able to play it after her as well! ) She does have Scumm installed so even if she has any problems getting it to run the other way she should be O.K. Also I have some compatability instructions for another game for her, so with all that and your info., should be fine.

Status : Online | Remember, though, that SCUMMVM requires you to download a different version of the cutscenes, and the right adapters to play them. I can run BS1 on Windows XP without SCUMM, although I have to use the .exe icon in the CD rather than the one made on my hard drive, so try that in case you have problems.
