Status : Offline | Well, I just wrapped up The Arrangement. Not a great game, but not terrible. There were a couple of really annoying points about it, though. But first, what I liked:
The premise. A missing wife, a diabolical argreement, and a madman toying around with you and her. Good stuff, it kept me glued to the screen (at least for the first half) eager to find out what was going to happen next wondering how I was going to get out it.
Fortey's voice actor, John Bell. He gave a deliciously evil sounding performance, just about perfect for the character. As a something of a connoisseur in the over the top evil laugh myself, I found myself practically taking notes from his performance -- well done.
What I didn't like:
I said I liked the premise and the first half of the game. Unfortunately, that was negated in the second half by some fairly tepid puzzling, and some unusually frustrating pixel hunting. I spent more time trying to find two or three obscure hot spots than I did working on the rest of the puzzles in the game, I think. That's just wrong.
Another thing marring my enjoyment of the premise was the off putting ending. I won't spoil it here, but it just didn't work for me at all.
OK, it sounds like I didn't like it, I suppose. Let's say I liked how the game started but not how it ended. And I must remember I'm talking about the work of a single person, not a development team.
Keeping in mind Michael Clark's first game Harvest (which I preferred to this) and the promise The Arrangement started out with, I'm still very interested to see what he comes up with next.

I really learned alot about what works and what doesn't work with both of my games. You can be sure, I'll apply all lessons learned to my next game!

What kind of ending would you have liked? How would you have ended it?

His answer to that may spoil a bit of the real ending!
Personally, I was a bit neutral on the ending... I'm also the guy who buys B movie 10-packs at Best Buy for $5.99 because I love the cheesy plots in them.

Highlight the box to read.
Spoilers Follow:
I wanted to see Richard find a way to gradually turn the tables on Fortrey, so that all of a sudden Fortrey finds out he's not in control anymore. That would have been pretty satisfying after dealing with Fortrey's cockiness for the whole game, albeit more straight forward. I would have also preferred everything to be real instead of a dream, but even that I would have possibly accepted if the game hadn't ended on a sort of ambiguous note anyway.

I thoroughly enjoyed the game and the ending never bothered me as much as it seemed to bother some others. I think your idea would have added a fun element.

How do you make spoiler bits invisible until highlighted like Andromus did?
