Status : Online | Yes...at CompUSA. They moved the pc games over to a corner and there are far fewer than just 6 months ago. I spoke with an employee about it when I asked about a title from last year and was told that they are cutting back on the pc games selection due to lack of interest. They also don't want to waste shelf space on games more than a few months old. Basically it's all about the bottom line. Now the only store in my area with a decent selection is Best Buy (at least for games from the past couple years), but if i want true variety I need to order online.

You think they'd change the name to CellPhone/CameraUSA or something.
I no longer do business with them -

Status : Online | In the small place in Sweden where I live (called Örebro and population about 100000 people) there are 2 games stores :-/
One is called Game and the other is called Tradition. Game is actually a big chain store that exists also in the UK (and maybe in america also but I don't know about that).
In both stores if you compare all the console games vs pc games then the console games are more, but if you compare only one certain console's games with the PC games (i.e. x-box against PC) then the PC games are more. But since the most PC games they are selling look actually more like console games for me it makes no difference.
The only 2 adventures that have made it go through that stores were Myst III and Syberia. Syberia is actually featured among the most popular titles. I wonder if the same is going to happen for Post Mortem in a couple of weeks when it arrives here.
I also order online. There is a bigger variety of adventures to find on the net, so why bother with the mainstream markets?

Status : Online | I noticed that at Walmart too. Last time I was in they had the new releases.
Fry's has a big selection of games as does Best Buy. The EB Store I go to has a good selection but would say about half the store is console.
When I first started playing, Comp USA was just filled with games but it keeps dwindling down so I don't go there any more. They have been in financial trouble for a few years now and perhaps think that PC gaming is not what it used to be and are pushing items that will bring in the customers.

| Deleted User | Yep. Similar experience. I went into EB to buy a gift. I was the only customer. I asked for help and a newbie employee didn't know about the game I wanted. He tried to help and asked the manager (who was MUCH too busy putting stock on the shelves to care about an actual sale) who didn't respond. I was irritated and I left. But while I was there I noticed that the console games had taken over much of the store, that used PC games took up probably 20% of the space and that PC games had the leftovers.
I admit that I usually buy online and this is the reason why: good service and I can find what I want.

But since the most PC games they are selling look actually more like console games for me it makes no difference. The last US 2002 sales figures I've seen were something like Playsation 2 33% of the market, PC around 27% of the market. XBox and Gamecube were each smaller than the PC.
So yes, all togeher the consoles are much bigger market than the PC. But the PC is not much smaller than PS2 and larger than the other two.
The article mentioned one interesting factor. The console market goes through very pronounced upgrade cycle every so often (when new consoles are being introduced). The problem is that no one can predict how well the new console will be doing so developing for it is risky. The PC market upgrades the hardware very smoothly in small increments so there is no such risk.
I also order online. There is a bigger variety of adventures to find on the net, so why bother with the mainstream markets? I do the same. My retail vs. online game purchases are about 1:10.
I forgot my sig.

The is in Michigan. But I have noticed GameSpot & Babbages are getting bad about carrying games. So.....I guess I'll stick with ordering online.........easier anyways.

i love the bin. i found the longest journey in there with original packaging and manual all in perfect condidtion. for £4.99! my local bin (just under 200 miles away but thats a diff' story) is always shrinking. ive been forced to go online.
Its boring, there isn't any action at all. You walk around picking up things and using them with other items. You walk around and use the item on something. Walking around and talking to people is really lame, what about some shooting or something~APuddleduck&&

i'd guess that 15% of the games were pc format and of that 15% maybe 5 were adventure... as in 5 games not 5%... arrrrrgggh !!!!

An EB, Electronics Botique, store here has a pretty good size area of pc games still including a large rack of pc games that are older, like 2 to 10 years ago. But even they plan on making some changes to their pc game dealings in 2003 I heard which will be as the title says, shrinking.

where do you go to buy online? Other than Amazon.com. I refuse to do business with them due to how poorly they treat their workers.

Ebay and Half.com are good places to start.
Also:
Playing Games Interactive--http://www.playinggamesinteractive.com/ Some rarer games there, if a bit pricey. (haven't bought from them yet) The Software Society--http://www.rochnet.net Nice mixture of old and new items. (haven't bought from them yet) Crazy Ape-- http://crazyape.com/ Another bargain site, usually good prices but haphazard selection. (Have bought from, was sastisfied with service)
R & R Wholesale-- http://www.rrcd.com
Fairly large lists of bargain software of all kinds, with some older adventures thrown in. I wish I would have known they had The Dark Eye before I paid too much on Ebay. (Have bought from, one game was available, one game was not)
Hoot's Loot--http://corporate.auctionworks.com/store/default.asp?sid=200211222348460000000002370885&sfid=12041
Yeah, it's just a overview of their Ebay selection, and they lump action and adventure all into one category--a pet peeve of mine--but many of their adventures run at or under 10 bucks, and I can forgive a lot for that. (Have not bought from yet)

I find CD Access are great and you get delivery from the USA to Scotland in about 3 days! That's quicker than out internal UK post!
Some games you can buy directly from the game website.
My local Game shop (which is small) has almost all console games - and very few adventure games. There were 3 Adventure games there the other day - that was it.
The shop manager is terrific. He tries to get me what Adventure games he can. I work away for long periods - and he has games put aside for me when I go in. he even lends me his old adventure games if I can't get it anywhere (the Dig for instance).
But on-line is your best bet for buying I think.

HAs anyone else used this store?
I saw some games I've been looking for - and just placed an order.
The order submit form didn't show any totals - so I sent them an e-mail querying postage costs -
(I used the e-mail address for such enquiries as given on the web page) - but the twice I have tried the mails have returned as undeliverable.
Should I be contacting Visa to with-hold???

Status : Online | Couldn't agree more. I live in England (in a city-right in centre of country) and have had the same problem. I'm far from young and female and the young boys in the shops can't understand why anyone wants to buy PC games and assume they must be for my son or even grandson and only seem to know about shoot-em up games for consoles. I get fed up with being talked down to as if I don't know what a computer is, when actually from the mid 80's I worked with computers for a living and had to learn the hard way pre windows. I now buy all my games on line but find my usual supplier 'Software First' seems to have gone out of business. That is a shame as at one time you could order a game one day and receive it the next. Never mind must get back to the game think I have a key to find!!!!

It is sad they have gone out of business. Always great service from them.
My EB Store that I go to is great. They know me very well and never talk down to me. They also know I play PC and PS2 and are always helping me with suggestions and ordering. We are all on a first name basis there.
If I lived out in the country, I would probably buy more online but have many stores to chose from with good selections. However, I do need to stop by Ross and check them out for games. I don't go there usually but if what the other post says is true then I need to stop by every now and then.

Interesting, I had a problem with their ordering system as well. The very first order I sent them apparently didn't go through -- I waited a number of weeks, saw my credit card was never charged, and decided to resend the order, which was processed. At the time I thought it was just one of those occasional glitches one runs into while shopping online. Hearing about your situation, however, makes me question the reliability of their site.

Well - my order 'seemed' to submit OK.
However - I e-mailed to ask about shipping - and the address comes back as '-access denied. This is a permanent error'.
Do you have en e-mail address for them?
I wondered if they'd gone out of business?
