Redbeard's Pirate Quest

Zowie Entertainment, Inc.
Projected Release Date: Fall 1999

Redbeard's Pirate Quest is the only children's title to make our "Best of E3" list, so it must truly be something special. It is. Redbeard is an adventure game, it is an action game, and it is a toy. A toy pirate ship is your "mouse" as you navigate a virtual world of swashbuckling activities. The ship comes equipped with three pirate figurines, a removable figurehead, a cannon, steering wheel, telescope and hatch, not to mention a plank, map and chest. The ship is approximately 15 inches long and a foot tall so there is plenty of room to play buccaneers on the deck. And play you will, for as you maneuver your figurines on the deck, their actions are duplicated on your monitor! Ship taken over by cutlass-wielding skeletons? No problem--just move your figurine back and forth, and he will do battle with his bony foes. Is that a sea monster rising from the murky depths? Move your figurine to the cannon and fire away! Feel like doing a little adventuring? Visit the Enchanted Islands in search of buried treasure!

This is one of those rare games where merely describing it can not do justice. It must be played and experienced. My biggest problem is: how will I hide Redbeard Pirate's Quest from my children? Once they see it, I many never get to play again!

And now for the Best Action/Adventure Game . . .
