Space can be a cruel mistress, as it lacks any sort of way of keeping the human body alive. With billions spent on getting man into space and to the moon, the world seemed content with its achievements. Or was it?
Announced today, Lace Mamba Global will be publishing the upcoming 3D action adventure game Lifeless Planet, an adventure game that takes the player off of Earth and onto another supposed life-bearing planet. The game focuses on the excitement of the space race and journeying to the far reaches of the galaxy in search of a hospitable planet for life to survive on. But what if all of that was a lie? What if everything you were told went right out the window (or viewport) when you reach your destination?
Lifeless Planet centers around the player being one of several astronauts that volunteered on a one-way trip to a new planet outside of the solar system. Upon a rough landing, the player finds out that not only is his crew members missing, but that the supposed life-bearing planet is the total opposite. Faced with a leaking oxygen tank, the player struggles to find answers, and discovers that they did not reach the planet first. Discovering an abandoned Soviet-era laboratory sets into motion a multitude of questions. Is the mission a hoax? A propaganda stunt? Are they still on Earth? How did this laboratory get here?
All these will presumably be answered when Lifeless Planet releases later this year. It originally began as an indie development that was funded by a rather successful Kickstarter crowd-funding campaign, with Lace Mamba Global coming in to sign the publishing rights to bring Lifeless Planet to the world stage.
